Geoffrey actually believes that the island wants him to produce Shakespearean theatre, which isn't as reassuring as a person might think. Because then he has to wonder just why the island is encouraging him in this endeavour, and just what it hopes to get out of it. He doesn't know how else to explain the fact that upon deciding on a play, the ( Read more... )

As she waited her turn, Arya possessed a look of intense determination. This time. There were a lot of parts in this one, and she was deadset on getting something bigger.

She was damned if Duo was going to take the part she was after, too. She glanced around, and aimed a suspicious, slightly threatening glare at him across the clearing when she found him.

She had a copy of the script tucked in the back pocket of her shorts, but she was determined not to need it. She had this.

Even though Geoffrey has an adoptive daughter whom he's watched grow up from a toddler, it still sometimes amazes him to observe that same passage of times in others he's known nearly as long.

"Arya," he greets her. "It's good to see you again. I'm looking forward to your audition."

"So am I," she said, vaulting effortlessly from ground to stage and then pacing to the centre. She was maybe slightly nervous, but in the scale of things, it was nothing. The determination outweighed it.

It wasn't as big as the first time she'd been up here. Or, rather, she was bigger.

"Whenever I'm ready?"

"Any time," Geoffrey encourages her with a nod, his own copy of the play tucked away in a back pocket as well, just in case. "Show me what you've got."

"Act 3, scene 2," Arya said, interlacing her fingers and stretching her arms out in front of her, lifting her left leg and pushing it straight out behind her, body for a moment parallel with the ground.

Then she dropped leg and arms both and shook herself loose, declaring, "Puck."

She'd been deliberately ignoring what everyone else was doing, which had taken some effort. But she hadn't wanted to see someone else do the same bit and have it get in the way.

"My mistress-" she said, in that same loose, frank stance, head down and eyes to the side. Just the hint of a smirk. "-with a monster is in love. Near to her close and consecrated bower, while she was in her dull and sleeping hour, a crew of patches," she strutted a little as she explained, a caricature of a labourer, because she clearly didn't think much of them, did Puck, "rude mechanicals that work for bread upon Athenian stalls were met together to rehearse a play intended for great Theseus' nuptial-day."

Geoffrey does enjoy him a bit of a smug, arrogant Puck, and nods his attention as Arya carries on with the speech. He isn't actually taking physical notes at the moment, but he's definitely making a few mental ones.

Geoffrey, if pressed, would have to have confessed a fondness for that same line, and had once been known for pronouncing it with tremendous relish during a production of the play when he was at university.

"Thank you," he said, with a somewhat delighted smile and a nod of his head when she was finished. "Thank you very much."

Arya essayed a small bow and stepped lightly to the edge of the stage, pausing once there. Now that she was done performing and didn't have that to focus on, she felt a little more anxious. Especially noting the number of people waiting their turn, or milling around afterwards.

"Should I have put a backflip in?" she said. "I could put a backflip in."

"Perhaps I should consider that in my directorial notes," says Geoffrey, "but I promise that no backflip is required at this stage of the process."
