Jewish law had strict rules about the practice and observance of Yom Kippur and other major holidays. While this day of atonement would not begin until the following evening, Charlotte Charles who was better known as Chuck was mentally preparing what she would make for the meal prior to the day of fasting. It was like a traditional Sunday meal, which struck her as quaint and cute and something special given that she she did not get to have traditional Sunday meals given her faith. Now Saturdays were a different story.
All of this bore little relation to the breakfast that she was in the midst of preparing. There were honey and lemon muffins, crispy danishes filled with fruit and cheese, sliced fruit (some sweetened with honey and some plain) and stacks of french toast. Coffee was brewing and plates were stacked out for people who needed them.
She was whistling merrily while she prepared a batch of sausage rolls to put in the oven, slicing the rolls and arranging them artfully on the cookie sheet. This was a fairly simple task and she opened the oven and slid the rolls in, closing the door behind them.
"Now the waiting games begin. Hopefully this will hold the troops. And if not, I shall fend them off." With a merry laugh, Chuck turned back and began to rearrange the silverware in the bin.
