Moritz has been absent from the social scene on the Island for quite some time, now. Since Melchior vanished, Moritz has retreated into himself, barely even speaking to his new roommate. He's stopped going to his classes, stopped turning in his work, stopped going to his meetings with Dr. Sweets. He'd almost completely forgotten about his birthday.
From time to time he contemplated the gun under his pillow, but decided it wasn't worth it. Melchior wouldn't be there, either.
Now, though, he sits under a tree on the beach. Moping wouldn't do anything; it wouldn't bring his best friend back, it wouldn't send him home. Besides, Melchior wouldn't want him to sit and sulk. So he sits, his book beside him unopened, watching a little
creature run over his hands. He'd found the little thing around the time Melchior had vanished, and so decided to take him in. Moritz named him Chariad, after the word Bran had given him for Melchior.
Moritz sits and quietly watches the waves. While he enjoys his time alone, he isn't opposed to some company.
Typist: Long time no see, from Moritz. Anyone is free to come up and say hi, professors can ask where he's been, whatever you'd like :) He has a new friend, as you can see!
This little guy is a hedgehog he'd found wandering about the trees. He sleeps in a hollowed out coconut shell beside Moritz's bed :)
