Despite the amount of free time Teal'c had on Tabula Rasa, he did not get to indulge himself by watching television very often. There was no signal here, but plenty of reels on the bookcase, which was a good chance to catch up on those he had missed ( Read more... )

As much as Ronon enjoyed hunting, the compound was convenient. Like the mess hall but often with better quality food. He sometimes took books from the shelf and ignored the reels, for the most part he was unimpressed with television and it never gave him movies he liked. Nothing would convince him to watch Blades of Glory again.

It surprised him to find Teal'c watching something, and after a moment of it which was disturbingly familiar. He folded his arms and glared at the screen before turning back to Teal'c. "They made you a robot?"

"Indeed," Teal'c said, in a tone that conveyed he was less than impressed with that change. "I believe they do not think the public would accept an alien on such a team." It made sense, given that Stargate Command had some difficulty accepting him, although that was because they were unsure of what side he was on. He did not wish to speculate about what it was about him that made Martin Lloyd's faulty memory imagine he was a robot.

"He is yet to utter a word, however." Although he had not been watching this particular episode long he wondered when Grell would say something."

Ronon thought of the hassle he'd had from the IOA and the fact they'd had to redress him before he could even go out on Earth and nodded in agreement with Teal'c's assessment. "Don't see why a robot's better," he muttered thinking of the replicators.

Ronon couldn't help it when Teal'c pointed out that the robot was somewhat stoic. "Indeed," he said.

"I do not think a robot is better, necessarily. But obviously Martin Lloyd felt it was the best approximation to what he could remember." Although Teal'c did not know what the audiences had thought of Grell. Now he wondered, but could not find out until he returned home.

At Ronon's "Indeed" Teal'c raised an eyebrow. However, on this occasion, he did it on purpose to avoid speaking and there was a twinkle in his eye and a very slight smile to go with it.

"How'd he get away with making this?" Ronon asked. The stargate was secret on Earth. And even if the government liked he couldn't see it going over well with Carter or Jackson or O'Neill.

"Plausible deniability," he replied, quoting General Hammond. "If the public hear of the Stargate program they will believe it is a TV show and will not dig further to find out the truth." It was an excellent idea, although Teal'c suspected the Air Force would not do the same for all its secret projects. "It remains to be seen how well it will work should the secret leak."

Ronon supposed that made sense - though he didn't actually see the point of keeping the programme secret. People wouldn't know what they were up against if the Wraith or those things that had possessed Caldwell came calling. But it was one more thing that was different about Earth. "You think that's right?" he asked, "keeping it a secret?"

"I do . Most of the Tau'ri are afraid of aliens and cannot distinguish between those that are friends and those that are enemies." Although he could understand that it was difficult to comprehend for those who had not spent much time on Earth.

Ronon considered. "Yeah," he said. "I've seen some of their movies." They had weird ideas. It was still odd though - Ronon had never been anywhere other than Earth that did not know of the gate - the ring of the ancestors. "Never going to change if they don't know though," he pointed out.

"Indeed." Yet it was not something Teal'c could see a way to changing. "Some of their movies are representative of how they feel about such matters. It is those that are not that are my favorites."

"I like Jaws," Ronon said, though there were many movies, he did not like. "What is your favourite movie?"

"Star Wars." It's not a question he's ever had to think about since he first saw it. "It is unlike reality, so does not feel like a documentary. And the special effects are cool."

"Never seen it," Ronon admitted - he has seen some terrible movies based on recommendations back on Atlantis. But he'd probably be willing to chance watching something Teal'c liked.

"I was intending to watch it, but this is what was on the reel instead." Teal'c quite liked the idea of showing Star Wars to Ronon and he wondered what Ronon would make of it. "If I find it I will keep hold of it so you can see it."
