I had found the book months ago, but I'd yet to crack open the yellow-tinged pages of it in order to read the information inside. It had been like a Christmas gift from a morbid donor, some hint at what my future days might hold in terms of ambition and drive. And no, this is not my war memoir, but rather my true passion before me. I've started the ( Read more... )

"Hey!" I exclaimed as I happened upon Web watching, "Jaws! Alright!" There was no mistaking it, at all. As I approached Web, I spiderwalked my index and middle fingers up his spine and did my best cello solo impression of the theme. So I was a little flat, but who cared? It was Jaws!

I stare warily at Jim for a second with utter confusion. I have absolutely no idea what he's going on about and recline further, flipping the page of my book. "Is that Bach or someone?" I ask warily, not really paying attention to the movie for right now.

There was a pause, my head tipping to the side as I thought about the question for a moment. It should have hit me that it definitely wasn't Bach right away and I wasn't dumb, but the question did stump me for a second. "No," I finally answered, pressing two fingertips to Web's forehead. I gave it a little shove, then moved away to look at the movie. "I didn't think you'd like this movie," I commented.

"Why not?" I ask curiously, shifting in my comfortable position to be able to look at him. After all, it's not as if I spent that much time thinking about movies I wanted to see and not, and this one is all Trisha.

"Because Jaws is a killing machine," I answered. "That's fish discrimination right there." Who wasn't scared of sharks, though? Even experts had a healthy respect for them. That was what made the movie so great, the basic primal fear of rows of razor sharp teeth and a predator you couldn't see more of than a fin.

"It's a stupid movie," I say with a sputter of a laugh as I glance at Jim and can't help but snort as I lean my cheek against my palm and turn curious eyes on him. "Have you seen this movie before? Are you going to ruin it for me?" I can't help but tease.

There was something that rather charmed me every time about Web, and maybe it was just my piqued curiosity, knowing he liked the same sex, but I really had to stop myself from looking too much sometimes. "The shark eats everyone," I said, leaning my hip against the nearest shelf. "Want me to tell you how he does it, too?"

"I'm guessing with his large shark-teeth?" I deadpan slightly, offering a bemused smirk. "Honestly, if they're all so scared of the shark, why don't they just stay away from the waters and vacate the town or build swimming pools. Or is that the plot to the sequel? In which the shark manages to land in their pools."

"Oh, Web, don't you know anything about movies?" I asked patiently. "That would make sense and we can't have that in the world of fiction. There are sequels, though, believe it or not. Fictional people also don't learn." Neither did real life people.

"Sequels?" I ask with a scoff of disgust and a genuinely curious sound coming from deep in my throat. "...what kind of sequels? I mean, the plot strikes me as fairly simple when it comes down to it. There's a shark. So, the sequels are what...he just eats more people?"

"Oh ho no," I shook my head, emphatic, my arms folding across my middle as though this would make me appear more of the Jaws expert here. "His family does. They don't like the Brodys very much."

"...that's just too weird for my tastes," I admit after a long pause of silence, wondering how a shark's family was still sentient enough to...and you know what, I've suddenly given entirely too much thought to this. I need to just move on to bigger and better things. "What kind of movies do you like best?"

Usually, I would have just answered this and moved on with a What about you?, and had it been anyone else, I would have, but it was just too good to pass up. "Mindless comedies," I replied, and then mustered up as much of a smirk as I could, giving my dark hair a flip over my shoulder. "Are you going to ask me my favourite colour next? It's blue, just so you know, and my favourite food is tacos."

"Well, my favorite color is blue as well, but my favorite food is this little slice of cheesecake you could get if you ventured into the right part of downtown New York," I rave with the air of a connoisseur, pleased to be speaking about it with a grin on my face. "But movies? Well, I suppose I liked the Westerns. It made me pretend that I could be one of them, all suave and charming and attractive."
