The middle of summer on a tropical island and chilly. It didn't bode well, but Daniel didn't particularly want to stay inside which was why he'd gone to the beach. Maybe he liked it because it was cool out. It was a nice change from the humidity and heat that was the island's daily weather patterns. Still, Daniel had warm clothes and was, in fact, wearing the outfit he'd arrived in: a black t-shirt and green fatigues. He wasn't wearing his patches, but he did have them in his pocket.
He had a dilemma. Talking to Alcuin had given him an idea. An idea that, before the island, he never would have even considered. Still, he had a pen and paper and was sketching his idea on a pad of paper. First there were the symbols. Taurus. Serpens Caput. Capricorn. Monoceros. Sagitarrius. Orion. And finally: Earth. Each of the symbols had been repeatedly traced until the paper was almost worn through.
On a corner of the paper was another drawing, similar to the symbol of Earth. There were stars added and a round shape in the background that was supposed to be Earth. He didn't need to take the SG-1 patch out of his pocket to know what it looked like.
The question he was wrestling with was whether he was really ready to go through with it. For all that he'd given up on rescue and had, to a degree, left the team and the SGC behind - he never had gone back to wearing his tags after that argument with Mitchell - there was still a major part of him that was connected to the place and the people. He missed Sam and Jack and everyone back home, but it was a dull ache.
He only looked up when a shadow fell on his notepad and he wondered when it had gotten so dark.
(Note: Shortly before the snow starts falling. The symbols he's drawing are
these and
this.)
