Alain dismounted, unsaddled Magdalena and through a saddle blanket over her back before he left her to feed.
"Tell me what's needed," he said as he came close.

She spared him a glance, glad that he'd not commented on her shorts and tank top. There were way more important things to worry about.

Nodding, he crouched a row away from her, watched what she did and did the same. "You've been out all morning?" he asked.

She swallowed hard. "What've you been doing?" Surely he's noticed that it had turned cold, but... She lost control of her thought as she tug again in the dirt.

"Pulling people in to warmer places. Bringing clothing round. Helping," he said shortly, and looked over at her. "Same as you."

She finished the last few in her row, before moving to the end of where he was working. "... You did the right thing by covering the plants. We'll just have to pull the blankets back over."

As she shuffled down to him he nodded. "Bert raced around like a madman. Our crop from Gilead," he said, sounding worried himself.

She shrugged. "I'd do what I could," she said, not arguing his point. She'd work til she dropped, but since she'd find the time to have something, it was largely a moot point. "Do you have something I could borrow?"

She knew that he was the one who was being sensible, but it didn't stop her from thinking that she was doing the right thing. Just... she was cold, that was hardly a lie.

Alain slipped into the shelter, running a hand over the mare before he collected what he'd come for and exited, going up the rope ladder rung by rung instead of waiting for the lift to come back down.
He went inside, shutting the door tight behind him and knelt to stoke the fire back up. He'd banked it, and someone must have been back sometime before and done the same for it sprung to life fairly quickly. He put a pot of water on, and sat back on his heels for a moment, before his glance strayed to Nita.
"Quick, and warm," he said. It was a promise.
