The tan line on his ring finger is gone. It's such a silly thing to get all pensive about, but there it is. He hasn't been wearing his wedding ring for a couple months now, had made the conscious decision to take it off somewhere around the time Theresa had shown up (not as a result of it, though, at least he doesn't think so). He'd thought that ( Read more... )

"So much for what?" Daisy asks when she's finally perked herself up for the day and is in the process of debating what a girl's to do when she starts feeling as if she isn't the center of attention in her home. Typically the answer is 'get a new home', but she's still groggy and not ready for that. She is ready for light conversation, though.

"Findin' somethin' decent t'occupy meself without bein' made a spectacle of," Sean says with a huff, turning to face Daisy. "Guess some days that's jus' too much ta ask."

Daisy always does like it when he goes off in a huff of his, pretty little accent blaring away. It makes her feel like she's at an Irish wake, where everyone's just so upset and drunk at once. "And what's the spectacle today?" she asks. "Would I pay good money for it?"

"Maybe if'n ye're fond o' wastin' it," Sean says dryly, raising an eyebrow. "Jus' the standard 'if'n I dinnae get out o' this bleedin' room inside o' five minutes, I'm gonna wind up puttin' a boot through somethin'' kind o' spectacle."

Daisy lets her shoulders lift at the promise of that, as if it's actually going to happen, while she's left being sure that of course it won't be so fun. It never is. "Well, allow me to be a bit of distraction," she entices. "What do you say? I'm good at pointless talk. I spent every morning doing it."

Sean spends a moment looking as if he's deliberating that before managing a small, brief smile through his annoyance. "I'll take it. Ne'er had much time fer it b'fore, meself, anyway."

Daisy just watches that smile and her whole face scrunches up in delight as she feels like she's actually made some progress. "Well, typically, the first little round of small talk generally goes along with the hi, how are you, what's new, so what is new?"

Typically, the next part of it all is a standard 'not much, and yourself?', which Sean's all set to dispense with before he remembers that that's even more of a stretch than his usual bunch of mealy-mouthed lies.

"Family stuff," he offers vaguely, though his tone in no way implies that that's a bad thing.

"The kid?" Daisy guesses, because she's met her and she likes her. She reminds her of herself at times and that's a good thing, for her. "Good or bad ways?"

"Good grief," sighs Sean, shaking his head. "Has she really met more people in two months than I have in nigh on a year?" Not that he's the most affable of fellows around, but that isn't the point.

"Good ways, mostly. Good, weird ways."

"We've crossed paths," Daisy idly says, flickering her long fingers in some erstwhile direction that she's sure signifies somewhere and someplace. "How old's she? Well, compared to you, at least?"

Sean makes a face as he tell her, "Older. Nae by much, jus' a year or so, but... as if 'twere nae strange enae as is, right?"

"Well, you could take it as a good thing," Daisy points out, tucking her leg under her. "Now you've got twice as long to be with her as you would have if you'd been a frail old father-figure!" she points out chipperly, never really taking the time to remember that people weren't as used to morbid as she was.

"Well, first of all, I like ta think that I'll nae be so e'en then," he says wryly, slightly disturbed by the prospect. "An' second of all... well, I s'pose ye've got a point, after a fashion. Turns out I missed out on a lot back home, too, anyhow." Not to mention the fact that, even once he does finally found out about her, apparently they only get a handful of years before he... well.

For a second, he has to bite back the perverse urge to ask Daisy what it's like to die.

"Hmm," Daisy offers, a thoughtful little sound as she brushes her fingers over her hair again and again. Interested, yet distant. It's how she's spent so many days at Der Waffle Haus and she's so used to it that it becomes her second nature. "I'm sure you're hearing just plenty of campside stories, now aren't you?"

"Ye'd best b'lieve it," Sean says, shaking his head. They just never seem to be the fun, happy type of campside stories, which makes sense. Par for the course of his life, anyway. "By this point, I think 'm more interested in makin' me own new ones, though."
