Cain wasn't exactly sure why he even expected anything out of life except a swift and possibly painless death. That had been the only consistent thought he had during his time in the Iron Suit. He wanted someone to free him and alternately, he wanted someone to put him out of his misery.

Now, though, with Adora gone and Jeb so far away, he was fighting the grief off on a daily basis. DG had been there and she had helped and Cain bore a ring melted of a cruel invention to show his love for a zipperhead that should've just let well enough alone. They were both gone now and Cain was beginning to feel the overwhelming crush of grief couldn't be kept at shore. It was ready to flood him and destroy whatever was left of that heart he thought was gone so long ago.

He'd come home three days after Glitch hadn't come back to the Homestead. He went and searched for the zipperhead in order to find him, to coax him back to bed, to remind him who he was. He couldn't find him anywhere. He was just gone, the same way Zero had gone, the same way DG had vanished.

When he returned to the Homestead, there was a new sight greeting him from his front yard.

The unsteadiest Cain had ever been in his life was the moment he took his first steps out of the Iron Suit. This was as bad. He staggered a rough four steps forward until his legs gave out and he plummeted onto his knees on the ground, gripping the rough edge of the wood before him as his fingers rubbed over the etchings of his son's steady hand carved in the gravemarker. The sun caught the light of his badge and Cain tried in vain to find anger to overpower the grief or to feel anything, but the sheer numbness of the moment was crippling.

He barely felt the tears on his cheeks. He barely felt the burn of the sun on the back of his neck. Adora's grave had turned up and Cain felt widowed twice-over. It felt, almost, as if he knew now that grief would be what took him in the end. "Adora," Cain got out, voice hoarse and raw. "I lost him too."

[He won't be violent so much as just really sad. ST/LT welcome]
