Prior really should have thought, when he heard the guitar, that it might be Roger. But somehow it didn't occur to him, and as he walked past and turned his head toward the sound, it was too late - their eyes met, and it would have been completely ridiculous for him to keep going without stopping. Besides, they were friends, right?
Friends. One of whom was looking very, very good with his shirt off.
At least Prior was looking a little better himself. He was on an upswing, which he knew wouldn't last, but he may as well enjoy it while it did. At the very least, he was dressing well (some of the worst lesions had cleared up, so he wasn't limited to loose knits), and his hair was kind of a thing of beauty.
"That's a neat trick, honey," he said, gesturing to the solar amp as he approached.
Wow. He looked good. He was sure Prior knew Brian was gone, and that made him feel more guilty than any time Prior had seen Roger and Brian together, but now... He just hadn't seen much of him. Once when Prior was in the clinic and a few times out, but not like this. Not just the two of them in front of Roger's hut and in a certain state of undress. For two AIDS patients, they looked amazing, and Roger for one was taking notice. Though it seemed Prior was, too.
"Oh. Uh, thanks," Roger said, nodding to the amp. "Duo made it for me and Rodney McKay solarized it." He smiled a bit from behind his sunglasses. "You... look really good."
Prior kind of wished that that statement didn't give him so much pleasure. "Thanks, Roger." He paused. "So do you." It was true, too, very true, though he tried not to sweep his eyes over Roger's body as he said it. He cleared his throat. "How have you been?"
He knew about Brian, of course. But he hadn't talked to Roger about it, he didn't really want to, truth be told. He felt badly for Roger, sympathetic that he was dealing with a loss, but he certainly couldn't pretend that he'd had anything but dislike for Brian.
He was really glad, too. An ex catching you looking like crap is pretty much the worst thing ever.
God, he gets gayer every day.
"You know," Roger said, nodding slowly. "But good. Really good. Dean and Angua... well, they babysit me." He chuckled. "Staying out of the clinic, so... And, uh, you?"
"Yeah... me too. Out of the clinic ever since that nasty half hour where I thought I had a month to live." Prior glanced behind him at the hut. "I'm glad you... you know, have someone. I'm still working out some of the kinks of living with Maureen, but you know... she can be pretty insistent."
"That's a nice way of putting it," Roger said of Maureen, chuckling down at his guitar. He bypassed the part about sickness because... well. Even on a good day, he couldn't take it well.
"Dean and Angua have been... amazing, really. Working at the club helps."
"Oh... good. Yeah, the club. I'd like to spend some more time there. I told Helen I'd do the occasional drag number, but I've been..." He'd been sick, was the bottom line. It was true that he hadn't been in the clinic since then, but he'd spent weeks nearly exclusively in bed, recovering from the vitamin deficiency, and hadn't been up for much since then. It was only in the past week or so that he'd really been on the mend, and he felt better now that he had in longer than he could remember.
But he knew that Roger didn't want to hear about that, so he just finished, "But I haven't yet."
"Yeah," Roger finished for Prior. He knew how hard it was to say, much less deal with, so he tried to cut out the words as much as possible. Both for himself and for Prior.
"You should. I'd... like to see it." He couldn't help but smile at that. He remembered what seeing Prior all dolled up had done for him in the past.
He couldn't help but remember either, and it usually wasn't a good thing to have a sudden slideshow of images in your head of your ex sliding your dress up around your waist and fucking you senseless while you're standing right in front of him.
Man, it had been so much easier not remembering the good things about Roger when Prior had been so incredibly pissed off at him.
"I haven't worn a dress since Mardi Gras," he said, trying to ignore the ongoing slideshow. "It's been months!"
