At some point in time during his wanderings, Anatoly had taken a wrong turn of sorts and found himself in a part of the island he hadn't explored much before.
Hearing a haunting familiar sound, he investigated and after a few moments, found its source - one Roger Davis. There was something good about being turned around, after all.
"Hello, Roger," he said warmly as he approached. "I thought I recognized that sound."
"Hey Russia," Roger greeted over his glasses. "Never seen you around these parts." He smiled, though. Thank God -- someone he hadn't made a fool of himself in front of.
Maybe it was a stroke of braveness, maybe Roger was just that stupid, but as soon as the words were out of Anatoly's mouth, Roger's retort shot back with a quiet, almost-shy, "Keep talking like that, Russia, and I'm gonna think you're flirting with me." At first he was mortified to the point where one would think he was doing his best 14 year old girl impression, but he managed to sober around it. It actually came off fairly smooth, so he could get away with it. Maybe. Hopefully.
"Flirting?" Anatoly ducked his head, flushing slightly. "Me? I wouldn't have the first idea how." Even if he had meant to, flirting with women was one thing. Men? That was almost entirely unexplored territory.
"Then how did you meet... whoever you're with?" He asked. He was fairly certain he'd heard Anatoly hung around with Lex Luthor, but that wasn't a mistake he wanted to make if he was wrong. Also, if he wasn't with someone... well, awesome.
"Lex?" Anatoly couldn't help but duck his head again, smiling fondly as he talked of the man he adored so much. "I met him playing chess. We became friends and somehow..."
He trailed off as he replayed the events leading up to New Year's in his mind. How or when he fell for the man, he couldn't pinpoint, but fall he had. "Somehow, things happened and now? I am glad for what we have and wonder, sometimes, what I could have done to deserve it."
