While Chase knew he had come a long way in terms of responsibility and growth, he still didn't think he was capable of handling all of his responsibilities at once. So, quickly, before he could change his mind, he approached the list and crossed his name off.

Anthony grimaced when he saw his name on the list. How many times did he have to say that he no longer wished to play this game? How many ways did he have to explain to Guy, or Ainsley, or whoever had written his name down, that he was finished with the Council? He wrote declined beside his name in neat letters.

It isn't his nature to turn down an opportunity to serve, and the decision doesn't come easy. But he has too many projects - his class, training, the teams and their family under too much stress, the museum, and maybe his circus, and for the first time ever, no need to keep running. Maybe, he thinks as he writes declined next to his name, it's all right, just for a little while, to be selfish.

Much as Jim was a little pleased to see his name on the list, he knew realistically he wasn't up for trying again - not yet, anyway. Sam was too young, and he had enough to do to keep him busy. Finding himself wondering who had put him up in the first place, he crossed off his name and headed away.

Ellie had been shocked when she noticed her name on the list. She knew immediately it wasn't what her heart would really be in - the medical portion of the island was. In the end, she crossed her name off the list. She could serve and help this place in her own way.
