Everything was perfect! There were streamers in pink and green and yellow and punch and refreshments. Elphaba had found another dress in Glinda's closet that was Just Perfect as well--
perfectly pink with satin and beading and ruffles. She and her friends had worked very very hard on this party and she just knew it was going to be the best one ever. Which was good because it was also the most important day of her life and if it didn't go well she was just going to Die. She'd be an absolute laughing stock and that couldn't happen to her! She was Elphaba Thropp. Daughter of the Eminent Thropp himself and the sister of the Governer of Munchkinland. She was much too popular for that to happen.
Elphaba tossed her hair, hanging long and loose in curls down her back, pink flowers clipped in to hold it back from her face, and checked the time. Where was Fiyero? If he didn't show up soon everything was going to be Ruined.
Fiyero was very well aware of the changes in Elphaba due to the island. He would even admit to enjoying them, if anything because he missed Glinda so and it was nice to see Elphaba smile so brightly, just as their missing love did. Of course, he would still be glad to have his Elpie back, but the change was nice.
Not knowing anything was going on, he'd taken Kalm for his hunting practice, just as he did every morning, without another thought. Hours later, the two returned, both proud of the small rodents Kalm had successfully caught in his jaws. "Elphaba! You will be so proud of Kalm today."
Elphaba screamed. Not at the dead animals or the blood but at the state of them both, grimy and sweaty after a long morning hunting."Fiyero!" she shrieked and ran to him, pulling up her skirts so she wouldn't trip, "No no, this won't do! You have to get changed! It's almost time!" Then she remembered that no one wanted to be friends with a perfect shrew and composed herself. "I mean, that is, darling, don't you want to get cleaned up before the party? It's almost time. You can take...Kalm..." whom she'd been carefully ignoring for the last couple of days, terrified that he'd decide she was a proper snack. Honestly, what were they thinking, living with a full grown wild animal? "home and get changed."
Kalm, being so very proud of himself, happily dropped the rats right by her shoes, wanting to show off to Elphaba how well he'd done. Fiyero would have bent to pick them up before they freaked out this Glindaified Elphie, but he was a bit thrown by what she'd just said. "Party? What party Elphie?" He asked, clearly confused. This was the first he'd heard of anything.
Elphaba laughed, too brightly and too nervously to not be hiding something. "Just a little party at the compound! All our friends will be there!" She skipped backward from the dead things, making a face before plastering the smile back on her face. "Quickly, quickly, you have to get ready!"
Fiyero gave her a long curious look as he bent to get the rats before Kalm realized that she was grossed out by them. The last thing he, and the normal Elphaba, wanted was for him to loose an ounce of his hard won confidence from all this. Then he shrugged and smiled. No matter who she was acting like, he trusted her. "Alright. Let me go and get cleaned up. Should I leave Kalm for a nap in the hut?" He asked, as a more polite way of asking if the lion was invited to the party.
There was blood on the lion's mouth. Of course it couldn't come! "Ah, yes, I do think that would be the best solution, dear."
Fiyero had suspected that would be the case. So instead, he carefully leaned forward to kiss her cheek. "Alright. I'll be up at the compound for a shower in a bit. What should I wear my love?"
She permitted the kiss then patted his shoulder. "Your very best. I want you to look nice." Her gaze softened away from its determined manic cheerfulness. "I love you."
"My best then." He said, giving her one of his brightest smiles. "And I love you so very much, my beautiful Fae. Come on Kalm." He said to the lion as he lead him off towards the hut so he could find his best clothes and get the lion settled so he could cure his curiosity into what Elphaba was planning.
Elphaba finished fussing over the arrangements and put into place the piece de resistance--a large banner that proclaimed Congratulations! for the happy couple. They'd worked very hard to make it right. She hoped that Fiyero would like her surprise. It was more than time for them to get married and then...then maybe they could have a baby! Wouldn't that be the most amazing thing? She bounced up and down in sheer glee just thinking about it.
When Fiyero had showered and changed into the loose white suit the box had provided for him, he arrived to the place Elphaba had told him. Kalm had been settled in for a long nap after eating the rats he'd caught so Fiyero wasn't worried about leaving him alone for a while. He looked around, impressed by the planning and decorations before coming to wrap his arms around Elphaba from behind, placing soft kisses on her neck. "Who are we congratulating my love?"
She turned around in his arms, "It's for us! For our wedding! You will, won't you?"
This of course made Fiyero pause as he had the weighted feeling of history repeating itself. Why did the women he loved insist on doing this to him? "I...of course..." There was no other answer, no matter how surprised or slightly disappointed he was. Disappointed for not being the one to get to ask...and that he knew Elphaba as herself would never have asked.
For the second time, Elphaba shrieked, this time with glee, and threw herself onto him, kissing him hard. "I'm so glad! I have it all planned out. Morgan helped! She's my best friend." Elphaba stopped, her eyes and mouth going round with surprise. "Oh! Except Glinda. I mean my best friend here! I mean...come have some punch!"
Fiyero just made himself relax. There was nothing he could do at the moment except do what he did best. Make her happy. He smiled easily after returning her kiss. "Lead on my love."
[Gathering post style, assume there are limited refreshments (Elphaba isn't very good at this but she had help).]
