I want those wings too...

Apr 30, 2009 08:09

Yesterday had been the worst day since Cloud had left on the island. He'd felt a little insane. Every time he tried to think, he became overwhelmed by an emotion. Aeris had told him ... he wasn't even sure how to describe what she'd told him. Was it the truth? He pushed those thoughts aside. They threatened to overwhelm him ( Read more... )

Zack heard his name being called, but continued to stare angrily at the wings. He ripped both in half in anger before he looked up, only to see Roxas standing there dragging that thing.

"What'd you bring that for?" he yelled in frustration.

"LEAVE ME ALONE," he shouted at the sword, though he could have easily meant Roxas.

Zack yielded, not to Roxas' pleas, but to the wisdom of having a weapon, even one such as the Buster sword. "Alright," he said, flatly.

"Thanks, Roxas," he gave his best effort to sound happy, but it still came out as exasperated and not grateful. "Now I'll just need a sword holster for it." It was an aside not directed at anyone which meant that the clothes box took it personally, producing a sword holster and two new sets of wings when he opened it again.

He made an aggravated, frustrated sound at it, following that up an annoyed look through squinted eyes.

Will had intended to spend as little time as possible in the compound until this whole mess blew over. His immediate family was unaffected, but it was still disconcerting to have friends acting completely out of character, and once he'd assured himself that Abby and Moril were all right as well, he had little need of being out and about.

But chores still needed to be done, and one of them that was sorely in need of doing was laundry. It was with this goal in mind that Will came down the stairs, hesitating as he saw the look on the stranger's face as he explored the clothes box. Will had had enough odd encounters with it in his time here to be instantly sympathetic, even without knowing exactly what was going on. "Are you all right?" he asked cautiously, setting his bundle of laundry atop the nearest washing machine.

He startled slightly when he heard the voice. He had been expecting a long-haired, 6 foot sword carrying ex-SOLDIER. He breathed a sigh of relief when he'd looked up to see it was not Sephiroth.

"Not really," he replied, a dramatic sigh in his voice. "Worst day of my life yesterday. Today isn't shaping up any better."

He moved the wings aside, hoping the other had not seen them. Nothing like having the worst day of your life and then explaining that to a stranger.

"Ah." Will nodded in understanding. "It's difficult when the island plays tricks, sometimes." He had no way of knowing if this man was affected personally, or simply suffering along with his friends, but either way it wasn't fun. As he knew from the previous time this had happened. "I'm Will, by the way. Will Stanton."

"Is it playing tricks?" he asked. Why hadn't he thought of that? Of course it was. It was playing a trick on him now with these wings.

"Will? Zack," he said. His movements became erratic, almost manic for a moment as he avoided eye contact trying to sort through everything that recently happened.

Zack wasn't hard for her to recognize from any angle, and after a morning of dealing with Monet gone all Pleasantville on her, he was a welcome sight. "Hey Zack, getting tired of the same old same old? What's that?" she asked, peering over his shoulder.

"Hey Karolina," he solemnly greeted her, not even faking an attempt at a smile. He wanted to hide the wings, but she'd already seen them. He looked at them sadly.

"Am I a monster or an angel." His response wasn't very helpful or informative.

Her eyebrows raise in surprise, but instead of questioning his attitude, she lowers herself to her knees beside him.

"An angel," she says without missing a beat and without any doubt. "Why?"

He shook his head. Emotions rushing up and threatening to overwhelm him again. "That can't be right. I killed people, Karo," he looked at her, pleadingly, as though she could take the pain he was feeling.

"And now I'm faced with this choice, but ... it's not a choice. I can't choose. I've already made my choice and gone too far down this path." Tears were threatening to fall. He'd killed people. He didn't deserve a second chance.
