Gideon was surprised he was coming off as calm as he fucking was with this shit. Inwardly, he was a ball of nerves, which didn't get any better as he fucking stood up front. Everyone was gathered in a halfway decent set-up on the beach, and he knew all eyes were on him. While he didn't usually mind that shit, suddenly it was all in a different ( Read more... )

Ellie was in her element with this kind of party. She had missed the wedding just because she was setting things up, but it wasn't hard to see by everyone who had gathered that it all had went well. It was probably for the best, anyway. Seeing another wedding would probably make her start thinking too much of her own, and for the moment, anyway, that was all put on hold to help out with this one.

Staying near the food, she mostly was around to make sure things went smoothly with the things she'd brought over for the party. She didn't know too many around, but that didn't mean much with her. She was sure she'd find someone to speak to, whenever they wandered over to see what there was to eat.

"Someday," Serena announced, wheeling up to the table with a playful pout, "the real awesome van der Woodsen metabolism is going to break down on me and I will very suddenly become very fat, and I'm pretty sure that's going to be your fault." As she walked, her camera thumped against her side where her hand lay at her hip.

"But you'll enjoy it so much while it happens," she assured, letting out a laugh. She was pretty sure she could say the same about the Bartowski genes. Luckily, she had a feeling she'd always be on her toes when it came to her life here. "That's the important part."

"You are very wise," Serena said, mock-serious as she nodded. A grin broke across her face in the next moment and she migrated toward the desserts. "Are you enjoying yourself? You're back here all alone, though."

"I don't mind, really," she assured. She knew she was mostly just here for the food, anyway, so she was happy to do her work and do it well. "I've been talking with people who wander over, so I'm enjoying it, too. I'm guessing everything went well?"

If how happy the couple seemed, it was a definite yes.

She nodded emphatically, brightening further still. "It was really nice," she said. "I mean, most of the ceremonies I've been to, the parties in question saved the cursing for off-stage, but I like this better." It was all really refreshing after all the Upper East Side weddings she'd attended, mostly her mother's.

"Yeah, I caught the groom's...colorful language," she said, looking a little amused. "Is that a normal thing?"

She'd only met Penny. He'd come up to her briefly to awkwardly thank her for helping him. Despite the sort of air he tried to create around himself, he seemed like a nice enough guy from where Ellie was standing. Of course, she always tended to give people the benefit of the doubt at first.

Serena laughed. "The cursing? For Gideon, yeah," she said, cheerful. "Way better than a society wedding, let me tell you." If nothing else, she thought it was more real. Society people got married for show, but Gideon and Penny, they held nothing back. She liked that in people.

"It sounds like it makes things interesting," she mused, shaking her head. "Maybe Devon and I should insert a few of those words into our vows, too."

She didn't swear often even normally - only when she was really upset - which made the mere idea even funnier to her.

Wrinkling up her nose, Serena giggled at the thought. "Maybe not," she said, biting her lip. It just seemed ludicrous coming from Ellie. "I'm pretty sure you guys have interesting covered without that."

"I wasn't too sure on coming to this thing, but the food alone pretty much makes it worth it," Matt said when he recognized the woman he was digging in next to. He was beyond used to similar events, and while he would never call himself a fan of them per se, familiar faces (that he could actually stand, obviously) always made them pretty darn tolerable. Downright decent, under the right circumstances.

Ellie was never against getting complimented. Food was still one of the few things that relaxed her - back home and here - and seeing other people enjoy it made it

"Food's a kind of hobby for me," she said, smiling. "You're welcome to grab whatever you want. I think I might've made a little too much."

She was sure it'd be eaten somewhere, either way, but carrying the leftovers back up to the Compound was a bit of a hike, even with Devon helping her.

"Heck," Matt started with his mouth full before taking the time to actually chew and swallow before saying any more. "All the opportunities you get to show off around here, you could probably call it a calling."
