For some time, he'd been anticipating the date with no small amount of trepidation. Now that it was here, though, Sasan was rather pleased to find out that Day #366 of his island stay was really not that much different from all the rest of them. For a given value of the word 'pleased,' anyway. He woke up, had a light breakfast and a short run, ( Read more... )

"Oh dear," Archie said, more in sympathy to the man's reaction than having been bothered. He'd heard and seen how awful the thing could be at times, though it was nothing but helpful to Archie.

The bookshelf had given him the book of Shakespeare he was currently reading, after all.

"Is this yours?" he asked, picking the flimsy magazine up. When he read the cover, he frowned. He would never understand the future need to pry in everyone's fortune - miracle child or not.

The shock was at least slightly easier to shake off a second time and Sasan only took a moment longer than usual to reply. "Uh, yes. The magazine, yes. The baby, no." The Tori, yes, and what the hell was she thinking?

"I don't think I really want it anymore, though," he added, clearly agitated as he tried to take it all in.

"I don't suppose I'd want it either," Archie commented, having taken another proper look at the cover. "Is this really what magazines are like, in the future? Prying into everyone's private lives for the public to see?"

Of all the fascinating things Archie had learned about in his time here, he'd stumbled upon a few he found more distasteful than others.

"Well, the interesting ones, at least," Sasan said automatically, not registering the guy's disapproval until afterward. Mostly it just confused him, though. Of all the many, many things horribly wrong with that magazine, the invasion of privacy angle is what he latches on to? Really?

"95% of those people are in there because they want to be, anyway," he explained with a dismissive wave of his hand. And that certainly included Tori. Her and her litter.

Only then did he notice that he hadn't blinked at that comment about magazines in the future, clearly not referring to a few seasons' difference. God, he really had been stuck here for too long.

"I see," Archie frowned. He saw no reason why anyone would want their lives on display, but as long as they were willing he couldn't say much otherwise. "Do you know her?"

Sasan wasn't quite sure he really did see, but wasn't about to push the issue. He had more important concerns to deal with.

"I thought I did," he said incredulously, the enormity of it all hitting him. Clearly all that stuff about how people could be back home even while they were stuck in this hellhole was a total load, since his disappearance had obviously driven Tori insane. That was the only reasonable explanation for marrying a guy with a name that reminded Sasan of Shawn's rat thing and immediately popping out Irish twins.

"Are children not cause to celebrate?" Archie asked a bit apprehensively. From what he gathered of the man's reaction, Archie was almost sure of what the answer would already be.

The future was a damned confusing place, for all the entertainment Archie found in learning about it.

"It's, well... they-" Sasan started, backpedaling somewhat. He knew the answer, of course, but when it was put that way, it definitely sounded at least a little bit insensitive. Not that he generally cared about those things, but...

"Not when you're not there to celebrate them," he finally admitted with a frown.

Archie winced, not having thought his question through, after his admission on knowing the woman there. "My apologies." He wouldn't have been pleased at all to know Horatio had a child and he could not be there to celebrate it with him. "My name is Archie," he went on, setting the magazine aside. "Archie Kennedy, that is."

Having surprised himself more than a little bit with that last admission, he all-too-gladly went along with the shift in focus. He was the best distraction he knew, after all. "I'm Sasan," he said as positively as he could, given the circumstances.

"Sasan," Archie repeated, making sure he got the man's name properly. It was a bit strange, but no stranger than anything else Archie had encountered since he'd arrived. "Pleasure to meet you, unwanted magazines aside."

"Likewise," Sasan said honestly, getting over his horror for the time being. He'd managed to live with every other ridiculous hand he'd been dealt in the past year, he could deal with this.

Eventually.

"You're a more than welcome distraction."
