This whole growing up thing has always been hard. It was hard back home and it's hard here on the island too, it's just hard in different ways. He doesn't have his family here, for one, and even if that makes it a little easier for Jim to find his own way, it's hard too. He misses them like he never thought he would. And here he has Cecily, too, which is nice in that he has someone he knows enjoys his company, but hard because he can't quite figure out what she really wants him to be, and whether he wants to be that person.

No matter where you are, it's hard being a mixed-up kid.

Having a job actually helps, even if it's just a once-a-week radio show. It's the one thing Jim has that he feels like he can really focus on and have it be exactly what he wants it to be.

Today is an eclectic day on Jim's show, because Jim's discovering new music all the time and sometimes he just throws on whatever he wants to hear. Today it's some Elvis, because he's enjoyed it ever since he first heard it; some Rolling Stones, by request; and some Styx because someone left the album out and Jim's willing to give anything a listen.

Other things might be a mess, but here on his radio show Jim's world makes a little more sense.
