As soon as he realized what had happened to the island (even if he did not quite get grasp the reason behind the holiday), he knew what he had to do. Peter raced straightaway to Wednesday's house, where his fears were confirmed. What had been a menacing fortress of a home the day before was swathed with pink, red and hearts- now more silly and sweet than scary.
It may be little known knowledge to most boys, but Peter was rapidly discovering how difficult heart confetti was to remove. They were tiny and sparkly and everywhere. He could pick up them up one at a time and, however many he managed to pick up, there were a thousand others still on the ground. Wednesday's yard was littered with them along with heart-shaped balloons, rose petals and plastic cupid statues.
With a sigh, he straightened up with confetti in his carefully cupped palm and walked outside of the fence. Just outside it, there was a sizeable pile of Valentine-themed decorations that he had already cleaned out of her house. Peter upended the confetti onto the pile then went to work on the streamers and heart chains weaved in and around the bones of the fence.
"Stupid Valentine," he muttered as he tugged roughly at a particularly stubborn heart chain. Not that he minded so terribly, Peter liked all the candy in the kitchen, for one thing. But Wednesday was bound to hate it, all the girly and the pink and love. Especially invading her house and yard. So he kept on working to get it all cleaned away.
[Wednesday's house is visible from the path, so any passers-by can see Peter working on his anti-Valentine's Day project.]
