The second time on the island he'd woken up as a woman was a bit stranger. Partly because Austen had come along for the ride. Mostly because he'd most certainly woken up in his own hut in his own clothing--which now did not fit as well as they had the night before.

It did, however, clear up why the island had decided to bestow upon him a kitten. ( Read more... )

Anita woke up that morning and at first wasn't sure what to think. Sitting waiting for her was a box of ammo for every one of her guns. She picked them up and mumbled thanks before heading for coffee. She wasn't in the mood to run this morning so she found herself heading to the box. If the place was happy enough with her to give her ammo maybe, just maybe, she could get some clothes that she would approve of.

"It probably will anyway, even if it doesn't stop with you." She wasn't sure she knew the other woman, but that wasn't too surprising. Other than running and her rounds she didn't really seek out company very much.

He glanced over at the woman with an annoyed frown. What she said was the truth, obviously. Why else would the island have bothered with things like this?

"That's really not the most encouraging thought."

"Sorry. I'm really not the person to see about encouraging thoughts." Her job was being pragmatic. It seemed to always serve her well enough in the end.

"It should probably get better if you keep trying." After all could it really get worse than lingerie? Yeah, probably.

He frowned down at the box. "One can only hope." It couldn't sink too much lower than the lingerie. Perhaps he would sick Austen's claws on the box until it cooperated.

He glanced over at the woman, and gestured down at the box. "If you're ready to order, go on ahead.

Anita thought about it a moment before nodding and picking something out. "Yeah, this thing really wants to piss someone off today." She said in a dry tone as she held up part of what had to be a harem costume. She put her hand in again this time getting a see through blouse of some sort. This wasn't going well.

Oh good lord, the island must have been incredibly smug with itself today. "You'd think the switching would have pissed enough people off today, without its poor clothing options."

"Switching?" That word got her attention. She had fallen prey to the Island insane whims twice and while she supposed some people might want to be young again three times being a teenager was more than enough.

"What has the Island done this time?" Perhaps it should have said something about how quickly she was ready to believe the worst of the place. Oh it had its moments, but its sense of humor left something to be desired.

Oh, to be blissfully unaware. Cameron waved a hand in the air with a sigh. "Another one of those body...changing things. I haven't seen enough people around today yet to know exactly what its done this time."

But he did have his suspicions.

"Okay." She nodded glancing at the other woman thoughtfully. "Which was it this time age, switching bodies with someone, or gender?" Really that question should never need to be asked. Never.

"Given I'm pretty sure that was my hut I woke up in, I'm going to say it's probably the last." He somewhat recalled other New Atlanteans mentioning waking up as a woman before, so this must have been what it was.

God help them all when the island decided to mix things up with its messes.

"I've heard of it happening before actually." Didn't the Island get bored with this shit? Really?

Anita was very glad that she had remained a woman. Not only would it have been weird to wake up as a man, but there would have been a lot of explaining to do. "Well I'm normally female, and I don't have a very good sense of humor and I have more ammunition now." This was said pointedly towards the clothes box. "Sometimes threats work." She picked up something in bright yellow and orange. "Then again sometimes you aren't believed."

He eyed the box with weary annoyance. It was like a six year old who wouldn't stop repeating the same joke over and over. "That seems to be a running theme of the island's. Too many unfulfilled threats of late, obviously."

"Yeah, sadly I'm not even sure that, while mind you I think this thing deserves to be shot, it would be of that much help." Though violence against the thing might be cleansing, and the idea was tempting for just that reason, it would also be very pointless.

"I'm sure its well aware of that fact." He scowled down at the box, wondering whether it would fix itself like he'd heard the jukebox would. It was almost worth keeping only what clothing he already had for the rest of his stay on the island.

"Yeah, I think you're right about that." She pulled out a few clothes and surprisingly they didn't look too bad. "I think this jeans might fit you this top isn't too bad." Considering the mood of the clothes box at that moment it wasn't bad at all.

Frankly, anything that could be honestly considered a top or jeans was better than what the box had been offering. No doubt it had some sort of sinister plan to repay him for offering something wearable.

Cameron nodded, and reached out a hand for the clothing. "That's far better than what it's been offering so far."
