It was distinctly unfair, Pepper thought, that when she made the inexplicable leap to island life, she should be propelled forward on her timeline rather than pulled back. Was she truly 37 today? Should she bother marking the day at all? Regardless, she wasn't pleased to be that much closer to 40.
With the possible exception of the jukebox seeming less annoying than normal, the day was turning out to be completely ordinary, and for that Pepper was thankful. Her last birthday had ushered in the three worst months of her life, and whether this one was a legitimate birthday or not, she hoped she'd fare better this year. It wasn't as if she wanted or expected anyone to make a fuss anyway.
Steaming cup of coffee at hand, she sat down at one of the tables in the rec room with a notebook and pencil, listing and marking off tasks that would need to be completed before the new house was finished, and when. It was just like any other day. No need to consider the fact that she had absolutely no plans nor anywhere special to go. Just another day, that was all.
Sighing, Pepper leaned back in her chair and reached resignedly for her coffee.
