There are certain things that can just be classified as 'outdoor' things just as easily as other things can be classified as 'indoor' things. For most part record players and video games were 'indoor' things, books could be both and frisbees and baseballs were meant to be used out of doors. Grigg Harris liked the simplicity of categories and ( Read more... )

There was a guy waving around what looked like a laser sword on the beach, and Beverly was pretty sure that that wasn't exactly safe. Large cutting material with a perpetually sharp blade...it was fortunate that the Klingons had always been too traditional to do that kind of thing.

There was always something to be said for ranged weaponry.

She perched on a rock nearby and watched the young man for a moment, skeptically, guessing this was something new to him, because his posture needed serious help. If anything, if he cut his own hand off, she could at least provide treatment.

Shutting the blade of the saber off when he noticed someone watching, he squinted and waved at her, still smiling broadly. "Oh, hi!" he called to her, before gesturing to the would-be sword in his hands. "It's my first day. I'm kind of new to it."

"I'm a doctor," Beverly said. "Just making sure no extremities are lost in the process. Nice laser sword."

She'd seen enough fencing to know good form, at any rate, and had tried it a few times, though that wasn't the same as actual fighting. Beverly, like Worf, had not been a merry man either.

"Thanks!" He smiled with the same sort of enthusiasm that was commonly found on fourteen year old boys and truth be told he wasn't far off in the feeling coursing through his veins. This was frankly awesome.

"Doctor?" He squinted a bit more, now that he thought about it, she did look kind of familiar, but then again so did half the island."Cool. My sister's a doctor."

"Did you arrive with it?" asked Beverly, curious. Laser swords, as much as they ever had been an issue in the Alpha Quadrant, had had massive limitations. Like the fact that she couldn't figure out how in the world this one managed to terminate its length without something on the other end.

Now she was beginning to sound like Data, but still, a world with those was probably interesting. "We don't have them at home, is why I ask. Our light weapons are like guns."

Not like she was about to whip out Jack's phaser (she still couldn't think of it as hers) for some random person.
