NYE - First Party Post

If you had been upstairs in the Compound or in the Hub at six in the evening of December 31, you might have thought your eyes were playing tricks on you, or that you'd once again been whisked off to some strange, new place. Within the blink of an eye, the rooms had changed, sparkling instantly with festive decorations, and it was all so ( Read more... )

Decked out in what were, without a doubt, the most electric pants the island had ever seen, Vince strutted into the party with his hair styled as high as it would go. Occasionally he would pause and say hello, winking and grinning at people he'd never once spoken to before in his life as if they were his best mates, oblivious to any confusion he caused as he continued on his way.

"Yeah, you alright? That is a wicked suit. -Alright there? That dress is wild..."

He snapped his fingers and grinned broadly, shuffling around and doing a little dance as he made his way over to the refreshments.

He wasn't who Bernice had been looking for, and he certainly didn't look familiar to her, but when she saw him standing next to her at the bar she decided that anyone who could carry that outfit off was someone she needed to meet. "Happy New Year," she said and held up her glass for a toast. "I'm Bernice Summerfield, and those pants are fab"

"They are pretty brilliant," Vince agreed, never one for modesty, least of all when it came to his fashion choices. "Look, the get all reflective-like when they catch the light. How wild is that?"

He paused a moment, and then grinned brightly as he held up his own glass in return. "I'm Vince by the way. Vince Noir."

"That is quite something." Benny laughed and leaned back against the bar, watching Vince demonstrate his trouser's special effects. "And it's a pleasure to meet you, Vince. I've got to say, the island has really outdone itself with this one. I never in a million years thought I'd get the chance to drink real champagne tonight. Have you been here long? I'd be curious to know if this is an annual do."

Vince struggled to remember what he ate for breakfast most days, so attempting to recall how long he'd been on the island was nearly impossible. He went silent as he tried to count, his head tipped to the side and his eyes screwed shut as he did his best to think back.

"Uuhhhmmm, since, about, well... Er, March?" he suggested, asking her as if she could somehow know. Though to be fair, he was close to right, only a month off.

"I wasn't here for New Years, I know that."

"Still, longer than me. I arrived some time in the early fall, I think." She understood how easy it was to lose track of time on the island, and she'd almost taken pity on him when he looked like he might strain something trying to work it out. It had been pretty damned amusing to watch, though. "I'm not usually one for saying anything positive about this bloody island from hell, but a fully stocked bar does do wonders for one's mood." Smiling, she took another sip of the champagne. "They even sprung for the good stuff."

"Yeah, it's pretty ace. I'm gonna drink that green stuff," he said, pointing at a glass on the table. "I dunno wot it is, I just like that it's green. Green booze, how wicked is that?" he asked, grinning happily before reaching to grab the drink he'd been eying.

"Wot are you drinking?" he asked curiously, taking a sip and blinking in surprise at the taste.

"Champagne. But I'm thinking of branching out a bit. No point in limiting myself when we're so spoilt for choice." She watched him try the oddly colored liquor but couldn't decipher his expression. "How was it? Worth trying?"

"It tastes... It tastes, uh, herbal, actually," Vince replied, wrinkling his nose and then taking another sip anyway. "Bit bitter."

It wasn't the sort of thing Vince would usually drink. He was much more fond of sweet things. However, it was all about the look. It looked good, and Vince was confident that he looked good drinking it. That was good enough for him.

Benny wasn't convinced about the green stuff, no matter how striking the color. Instead, she drained her champagne flute and reached for an empty glass and a bottle of clear liquid with a label she was pretty sure wasn't written in any Earth language. "I think I'll try this instead. It smells...interesting, at least. That's a positive sign."

Sipping it gently, she was pleasantly surprised at how easily it went down. "This is quite good! Sort of a mix between vodka and mango juice."

Vince leaned in to sniff her drink without invitation, and then leaned back to nod enthusiastically. "Smells good," he said, taking another sip of his drink and pulling yet another face at the taste.

Bridge stared silently and followed, munching on a slice of toast smeared with nutella as he went. The hair was amazing. The pants were amazing. He wanted to touch them both, and luckily he had two hands.

"Vince how'd you do that to your hair?" he had to ask. "Do you have a gravity reducer hidden in there?"

Vince tipped his head to the side thoughtfully, and then grinned. "It's a secret," he replied brightly. "Passed down by the glam rock gods for me to protect until I one day find someone worthy of passing it onto. Or, you know, have a kid or wotever. They weren't specific."

"Really?" Bridge said, eyes wide. "I've never met any glam rock gods. Alien emperors, yes, but not glam rock gods. But what about the pants?" he asked, looking down. He looked up again quickly. "Can I touch them?"

"Yeah," Vince said happily, lifting his arms to give the other man room. "They're pretty wild, huh? Electric. I got them out of that box."

Bridge excitedly crouched down and stroked his hands from Vince's thighs to his knees. "Are they really electric? I don't feel any wires, or any shocks."
