Draco Malfoy's life was not his own. He'd been bewitched. Hexed. Bound by the unforgivable zap of Imperius and made to do someone else's bidding. A do-gooder. A Gryffindor, no doubt. His life was hell, because he found himself caring about someone other than himself. Well, if you could call it caring. In Draco's case, it consisted of a kind of low-grade irritation, something buzzing in the back of his mind that he couldn't ignore, and would just assume crush as try and nurture. It also included the very real and very horrifying need to take down anyone who tried to mess with them. Anyone who made them cry, of all things.
He had, Lord forbid, friends and that realization gave him a terrible case of heartburn, an overactive mind, and rather fierce insomnia.
He'd fallen asleep very late, and thus he'd slept in well into the morning, snug in his warm bed. So, he was completely unaware when a certain gigantic serpent came slithering into the compound to escape the cold, warming herself in front of the fireplace before uncoiling and going in search of something nice to eat. A rat. A squirrel. A boy who'd always been a terrible disappointment to her master.
Nagini lifted her huge, diamond-shaped head, tongue flicking, and stared with cold, reptilian eyes at the pale head poking out from beneath the billowing duvet. If she could've smiled, Nagini would've grinned wickedly in that moment, drawing back to strike...
Draco's eyes snapped open and he stared, silent and confused at his would-be attacker, for one moment before he opened his mouth and let out a horrible shriek. He tumbled from the bed in green flannel pajamas and stocking feet, tearing off down the hall with a giant snake chasing happily at his heels. Oh, what fun this is, she thought.
"It's going to kill me!" he bellowed, slamming full speed into whomever was unlucky enough to stumble into his path.
