Lyla had never seen snow.

Oh, sure, she'd seen pictures of it, and her dad had always planned to take a holiday to go skiing sometime, but it had never panned out. Her mom liked the heat, and they were more likely to travel south over Christmas, if they weren't busy visiting family all around Texas.

But real snow, and falling? That was new. So new that she'd run outside in her pyjamas and slippers (suddenly flannel with little pine trees and reindeer all over them, her slippers all fuzzy and big) and straight out into it.

Things she learned real quick? That while it was pretty, snow was also cold, and wet. She didn't care though, her fingers freezing as she balled it up together, trying her best to make her first ever snow ball. All she had to do was wait for someone to come out the compound door (another surprise, the way it looked now, not like any building she'd seen in person either) and she'd chuck it at them.

Right now the island seemed a pretty good place, indeed.

[[I couldn't resist. One very cold Texan in pyjamas with a snow ball. Feel free to get hit by it. I will be slow on tags, so s & lt both welcome!]]
