Plunk.

Plunk.

Plunk.Ford Prefect sighed and dug around in his satchel. He wanted music, but the jukebox wasn't in a cooperative mood. He had attempted sweet talking it, threatening it, and even attempted taking the thing apart to reprogram it, but all in vain. The jukebox remained exasperatingly silent ( Read more... )

"yOU'RE biG AGAiN," Delirium said watching him dance. It was like all the dances that lived inside her head personified in Ford. It was very peachy keen. Delirium put her drink of water down on a table and climbed, with some difficulty onto an opposing couch. She was getting rather ungainly as she got bigger, stupid body. No wonder Despair was so grumpy all the time. "i ThiNK i LikE you bETTER biggER, iT MEANS i caN PLAY wiTH yOUR MinD AND makE you sCREAM. CAn i maKE you scrEAM, iT'LL Be fuN!"

"I don't know, hoopy lady." Ford gave a twirl, then went back to a good old reliable shimmy. He prided himself on his dancing, he'd even gotten an award for it. The fact that the award was given to him just to make him stop was an easily ignored fact. "What kind of screaming are we talking about here?"

"tHE best kind," Delirium said in answer to his question with a small and slightly eerie smile. She replied to his twirl and shimmy with a timewarp and a 'we love to boogie' move. "thE kiND WEre i taKE OFF Your trOUSERS aND GO and sEE The STARS anD foRGET who i aM for a whiLe. oR i coULD do the pEELing off YOUR SKin, crEEPY CRAWLY kind but thEN i'd gET into TROUBLE."

"Hmmm..." Ford weighed his options carefully, starting to try to match some of Del's moves. "I don't know... Let's start with the first kind of screaming for now and see where it all goes from there." He contemplatively moonwalked across the rec-room. "How's that sound to you? Hoopy?"

DG decided to embrace the whole "red shoes" thing, as the clothes box still refused to give her anything else. Today was red knee-high boots, which she coordinated with red shorts and a white blouse. Not the most practical outfit ever, she'd admit, but it looked nice if she did say so herself.

She stepped into rec room, hoping the bookshelf would give her a sketch pad or a coloring book or something she could doodle on, when a very familiar song came on the jukebox. DG grinned and bobbed her head, ponytail swinging, then laughed outright when the man jumped from the couch and started dancing.

"It's one of my favorites too!" she called over the music.

"Great to hear it, Earthwoman. Great to hear it." Ford kept dancing, happily oblivious for the time being. It took a while and few bump and grinds before he actually turned to look at the newcomer. Then he grinned. It was really because he was happy, even if it only succeeded in making him look predatory.

"Hey there, Trillian!"

The Doctor was not certain what was going on, really. Other than Jailhouse Rock at aurally problematic volumes and another ex-alien dancing his head off in the middle of the rec room.

Probably just another day, really. He watched for a moment, rather impressed.

It took a few more breakneck turns and a couple more circuits of the room before Ford noticed one of his fellow non-humans had entered the vicinity. Normally, Ford wouldn't have cared much, but he was reaching a bit of a crisis as the song kept going.

"Dance with me, frood," Ford called to him, trying a few moves he'd learned from Zaphod. "It'll be a blast."

If the Doctor was being perfectly honest, it looked as if Ford's gyrations were going to break something, but he knew better than to say no.

And it really was a rather gay song.

"All right, mate," he replied, and headed over, slightly dubious.

"Hoopy!" Ford reached out to grab the Doctor's hand as soon as it came within reach and kept dancing. "You know, the line in this about using a wooden chair for a dancing partner. Not such a good idea. They really don't dance that well. Always stepping on your feet."
