Spotted: Blair Waldorf, a year older and not much to show for it. Has the scion of one of the great Manhattan houses met her match in a sentient land mass? Or, for that matter, in Chuck Bass? With friends and allies gathering to mark the passage of another year, will the notable absence of Waldorf matriarch Eleanor put a damper on the festivities? We certainly hope not. With B coming into adulthood, she looks poised to come into her own as well, and besides, with all the work BFF S put into preparations, it would be a shame to waste a perfectly good party... and we all remember last year's drama. Can B top even herself?

Without Blair's assistance, Serena had found planning the party to be more of a challenge than she'd expected, but it had all come together eventually. Invitations had gone out on time, dresses had been arranged, presents obtained, permission to use the premises given, refreshments acquired. With everything in order, she looked around the Hub, satisfied by a job well done.

Though holding the evening's festivities out in the Hub meant chancing the odd gatecrasher, something she suspected Blair wouldn't appreciate, it felt more appropriate than retreating into the Compound as they'd done for her own birthday. Something small and silly had worked for her, and something utterly private for Chuck, but the idea of celebrating Blair Waldorf's eighteenth birthday in some anonymous, ordinary way was impossible to entertain. It had to be bigger, if exclusive, something elegant, something Blair.

The theme, Old Hollywood, was difficult to meet under the circumstances, but Serena could think of nothing more appropriate. There was liquor, kindly provided by Karen, and Chuck Charles had been sweet enough to step in when Ellie's clinic duties had prevented her from offering up more than a quick dessert. The important thing was that there was a cake ready for later in the evening, and that Serena had stashed Blair's present back behind the bar. With the lights dim and the lightboxes from her last party scattered around, the music provided by Penny Lane, it was, she thought, actually pretty charming. Hopefully the birthday girl would think the same.

[Set to this evening after sunset. Invited guests will have been notified via email, but gatecrashers are welcome to come and challenge Blair's determination to maintain a Grace Kelly demeanor.]
