Cain almost never thought he'd see the day arrive. After everything they had been through, he highly suspected that the only reason he was getting married was because he was owed some happiness. Though Angela was gone, her impeccable and perfect clothes were still laid out the morning of and Cain had taken heavily to tradition and found his way to DG's room where he could get ready. The lack of a full-length mirror was probably going to hinder him at some point, but his clothes were ironed, he was showered and shaved, and he'd even tucked away his hat for the day.
He was going to get married.
He'd absconded out the side door to get to the stage, whereupon he made sure everything was set up. It at least appeared to have some kind of roof on it. He crossed the area to stand by DG in that vintage-looking blue dress of hers, adjusting his suit jacket about a dozen times more than was vaguely necessary. From there, he really didn't have much to do except wait for Glitch and pray to every God Cain knew that the man remembered (and wanted to) that he was going to marry Cain that day.
Glitch felt slightly ridiculous not wearing his normal clothes, but then again he usually felt slightly ridiculous when he was going to be standing around in public and doing something important, like getting married. That seemed pretty important.
The newly-made rings that he was even more nervous about than getting married were practically burning a hole in his pocket as he trotted for the stage. He had to stop and stare at the place when he was going to get married. That was still almost ridiculous when he thought about it, but if Cain wanted to get married, then they'd get married.
But when Glitch spotted the stage, he froze. It wasn't that he didn't want to marry Cain, because he had absolutely no problem with it and they were more or less married already from what he'd come to really think of as 'married' and everything, but the stage was big and Cain wouldn't like the rings and everything would be horrible and something would catch on fire, so he stood at the base of the stage and stood eerily, horribly still.
Cain watched Glitch for a very long moment, one that felt like it was going to draw out indefinitely and kill him if it went any longer. He was starting to panic and panic was not good because Cain didn't do panic with much dignity. All he could do was slowly lifted his feet and made his way down the stage in long steps, waistcoat trailing with the wind behind him and he came up in front of Glitch to cup one hand to his cheek, leaning in and pressing a light kiss to his lips before brushing them over to his ear.
"It's just you, me, DG, and Az," Cain whispered quietly. "It's just us. Come on, sweetheart. Don't break my heart. It can't take that again in one lifetime."
"You won't like the rings," Glitch blurted, mind feeling a bit like a hurricane, but finally managed to move onto the stage. "You won't like them and I'm sorry."
"You made them," Cain said simply, not seeing any place that things could be muddled in a situation like that. "I don't care what they look like." In preparation for the day, Cain had taken his wedding ring from Adora and transferred it to the ring finger of his other hand. He was spoken for now twiceover and no matter what the rings were going to look like, he was going to be happy. He tugged on Glitch's hand one more time and pulled him to the stage to stand before DG and to start the ceremony in front of everyone.
The wedding was simple enough, particularly for O.Z. standards, but it was strangely comforting and a little funny to hear DG reading out all the lines, asking all the same questions every couple about to be married were asked.
Glitch had prepared vows. Big, long, sentimental vows that were everything he'd expected to be saying when they got engaged, but instead of saying them, he just managed to say the standard, "I do," and barely even that, eyes wide and almost scared. For some reason, it had only hit him now what being married meant, and the scary part was that he didn't mind in the least. In fact, he was happy about it. If that wasn't something that was mind-boggling, he wasn't sure what was.
Cain hadn't once taken his eyes off of Glitch the whole of the time and even though he knew they were pushing things too quickly, he also knew that he wasn't changing his mind in the mornings when he woke up to Glitch and he didn't feel differently when he thought about the way Glitch had kissed him for the first time and he knew that when he thought about raising the kids that lived with him, he wanted to do it with Glitch at his side. So when it came his time, he gave a sure nod and offered an 'I do' of his own, leaning in to press a kiss to Glitch's lips without any hat to cover him in public for the first time ever. He cupped Glitch's cheeks softly and eased back to kiss his forehead and the start of the zipper just the once, just softly, and eased back to give yet another sure nod.
Glitch smiled at him happily, eyes bright and content, only to freeze once again, hand diving into his pocket and pulling out two rings. They were smooth enough, although it was fairly obvious Glitch hadn't quite made it to the deadline considering the occasional ridge. They were a dark silver, traces of a golden-copper metal shining through at random. He shifted slightly, but handed one to Cain and slipped the other onto Cain's finger. "Moritanium and a lot of bronze," he muttered, trying to restrain the blush.
Cain took the ring and put it back to Glitch's finger, watching it go slowly and nodding once more as if to guarantee that the wedding was good, it had happened, and was over. "Happy birthday, Glitch. Ambrose," he offered as he leaned in to kiss his cheek. "This was the best birthday present I could think to give you."
And with that, he pulled just the once on Glitch's hand to bring them back to the Homestead where all the alcohol, the food, and the music was waiting.
