It was a testament to how much time it had been since he'd last heard her that it took Sasan as long as he did to recognize the sound. He was sprawled in bed, three-quarters of the way through a battered copy of Fight Club (yes, he read actual books on occasion, when the mood struck) when he heard it, a sort of snuffling noise coming from the floor nearby. He dismissed it as nothing, just the building making weird sounds for a few seconds, until it struck him that whatever it was seemed to be on the move. It wasn't until he bothered to look up just in time to see a flash of something frilly and pink making its way out the door that it finally clicked, and he was on his feet following it in an instant.
"Mimi?" he gasped, bursting inelegantly into the hallway to find a large lump of pug dog slowly plodding along against the wall, completely oblivious to the fact that she definitely hadn't been there thirty seconds ago. Mimi LaRue, Tori's large lump of pug dog to be precise, just as fat and... froofy as Sasan remembered her. The ill-fitting dress probably wasn't helping matters, though. "What are you doing here?"
He felt it was a perfectly legitimate question. Maybe it was some sort of harbinger that his Torina might be showing up, but somehow Sasan doubted that. No, this seemed like one of those tacky island things, only instead of getting something freaky that he could toss in the trash and promptly forget about, he got something that he actually had to take care of. Well forget it, he was sure there were plenty of other people around who'd be willing to take in a spoiled, overweight pug with hip problems, no way was he going to dogsit until Tori decided to show up. He was not going to have any part in this.
"Oh, Mimi, get away from there, those walls are filthy," he said, forgetting his reticence and rushing over to instinctively scoop her up. The least he could do was get her acclimated, right? And also onto a diet of some sort because wow, was she overdue.
