Spotted: S, B, and C, not letting a little thing like locale stand in the way of tradition. It may not be Manhattan, but that doesn't mean that our favorite expatriates won't be doing their best to pretend otherwise. The annual Masked Ball has started off with a bang - but will it end the same way? Somehow, we think the recent arrival of Lonely Boy and Little J will make this a night to remember...

It had been a long time in preparation, and more work than Chuck cared to think about at the moment, but the masked ball was in full swing, and as far as he was concerned, they couldn't have done much better. The day had been a flurry of activity; Chuck had been involved mostly in managing the chaos, telling people where to put food, what the decorations should look like, how to arrange the furniture to best suit the occasion. He'd been surprised by how efficiently Serena's social contacts had found them volunteers, but there was no point in questioning success. At the end of the afternoon, they'd had tables full of food, a very well-stocked bar with hard liquor, wines, and just about every mixer they could fashion. New Pemberley glowed with the attention and decoration that had been lavished upon it - tastefully, of course - under Blair's watchful eye.

The sun had fallen low in the sky when everything was finally finished, and everyone had gone home to dress and prepare. Around 9 o'clock, just as the moon and the stars had begun to truly shine, people began to filter down the path towards the manor, talking and laughing amongst themselves. The home was soon full of partygoers, all dressed in elaborately formal garb and wearing masks, the atmosphere at once festive and mysterious. When the midnight hour sounded, they would all unmask and break the spell, but for now the air felt full of potential and excitement.

Chuck stood in the entrance to the ballroom, hesitating just a moment and surveying the crowd before he let himself be pulled into the mass of happy revelers. It wasn't New York, he knew, and it would never be; but tonight, perhaps, it was something just a little better.
