"You're in a good mood," I observed as I plopped down beside Vince and craned my neck to see what he was reading. Some god-awful fashion spread that I instinctively knew he thought was fabulous. "Your hair looks good today," I added. Not the sort of remark I'd make for most people, but a requirement for Vince.

"Thanks," Vince said brightly, his magazine briefly forgotten as he fussed with his hair a little. "I'm thinking about cutting it soon. Just a bit. Make it a bit more spiky up top. ...Yours is looking good too," he added, reaching out to toy with Shari's hair.

"Thanks. It's better now that the rain has stopped," I replied of my hair. Despite the fact that Vince was immediately (And unsurprisingly) fiddling with my hair, I knew better than to touch his without an invitation. "But I think almost everyone's hair was frizzy that week, so maybe I get a pass. You going to that ball tomorrow?" I couldn't decide if I wanted to bother with it.

"Yeah!" Vince replied brightly, his fingers falling away from Shari's hair as he grinned. "I've got a mask picked out and everything. It's going to be brilliant. I love masks and balls. Or at least balls that require masks... Are you going?" he asked.

"I don't know yet. Maybe." If Vince would be there, that was at least one good reason to go. "I haven't talked to George about it, I have no idea if he wants to go or not. I need to decide so I have time to wrangle something decent to wear out of the box." I had a few nice dresses, but nothing I'd consider worthy of a ball. "If I agree to go, will you do my hair?" Like he could resist.
