He'd been gone for a week. If it hadn't been for the Doctor, he'd probably still be gone--probably for good. He sighed as he weighed the Doctor's opinion that disconnecting some of the circuits and relays in the TARDIS would be akin to murder against the thought that he really didn't want this sort of thing happening again. It was harder than he'd ( Read more... )

Logan was wet, and not in the refreshing sort of way that came from spending the better part of the day in the surf. No, much more in a cold, soggy, maybe-I-really-should-build-that-ark, sort of way. Though he at least had the common sense to wear a hooded raincoat, the deep green plastic the only thing keeping him dry. He shrugged it off as he stepped into the kitchen though, his soaked boots in his hand ready to be left at the door until they dried.

He saw Jack, but didn't greet him right away, taking his time as he put his boots aside to dry and draped his coat over one of the chairs. Next came coffee, then food, and the minutes slipped on by before he finally sat down at the table.

"Good book?" he asked, sipping his coffee as he looked over at the other man.

The sleeves of his thick sweater were pulled down over his fingers, as his sleeves often were. However, for once it had nothing to do with how he felt and everything to do with being cold. It didn't rain too often in Neptune, and when it did, it wasn't like this.

"Great book," he answered, looking up slowly and grinning at Logan. "How'd you sleep? Other than all over me?"

"Fuck off," Logan snorted, though the words lacked their usual bite, and there was a hint of a smile on his lips. "I slept fine," he added, reaching out to try and take the book to see what it was.

Jack lifted his hand so the book slid from him easily.

"It's poetry. Don't have a heart attack or anything," he said, lifting his coffee cup. "The shelf has been giving it to me every time I look for something for, oh, six months? Something like that."

On one page was an illustration and on the other the text read,

Two sleepers at night lying close together as they sleep, one with ( ... )

Logan took his time reading, his cheek cradled in his palm as he rested his elbow on the table and slowly took in the poem. There was a moment of pause, the subject causing him to quirk a brow, but eventually he made it through, only to start over again.

Once he'd read it twice, he glanced back up at Jack and gently pushed the book back across the table. "It's good," he said honestly, eying the other man curiously for a long moment before starting to eat again.

"Though I think I'd rather do it than read about it. That's just me though."

"Yeah, that's sorta what I think, too," he chuckled, closing the book. "Poetry...internet porn before computers. That's from around the first American Civil War."

"Well, it doesn't leave me feeling as frisky as naughty school girls dot com, but I can't say it's not a little hot," Logan admitted.

"You've got such a way with words, Logan. Though...can't really disagree with you on the hotness of naughty school girls. Always liked those short skirts..."

"Yeah, I'm a modern day Shakespeare," Logan grinned. "And there's definitely nothing wrong with short skirts, or cardigans... or knee high socks."

He looked distracted then, lost in his own thoughts as he poked at the food on his plate.

Jack let him take a minute before he reached across and pushed his arm lightly. "Hey. You realize you forgot to mention the pigtails."

Logan snapped out of it and laughed. "How could I forget the pigtails? I love pigtails. It's like having handlebars," he quipped, sitting up a little straighter and flashing a smile.

"My thoughts exactly," he laughed. "You're twisted, Logan. I like it."

"Not twisted, just precocious or something," Logan replied. "Is precocious the right word? Sounds right."

His foot bounced a little under the table, and he cleaned his plate, eating with more enthusiasm than he'd had in a while.

"Precocious? Sure. Run with that," Jack said, shaking his head slowly. "I should probably tell you I'm going to be busy the next few days so I might not be around as much. We'll be doing the musical as soon as the rain lets up, and there's still a lot to do."

He did fairly well making it sound like it was just some sort of boring conversation and not that he was being considerate so Logan wouldn't worry if he wasn't around.

Logan looked a little surprised by the warning, and he nodded once as he leaned back in his chair.

"Gonna sing and dance? Who knew you had talent outside of the bedroom as well, Jack? Colour me impressed, man."

"Who knew."

Jack took a sip and leaned back, stretching out his legs until his ankle rested against Logan's. Toying with the cup, he watched the food disappearing from the guy's plate and was a little pleased to see hi eating at all.

"Cole has me playing the lead guy in Anything Goes. I didn't have much choice in the matter, not that I mind. It's more out front than Mimi put me in Wicked, but I get to kiss Evey and dance with Maureen. Definite benefits to saying yes."
