"Not unless you shaved your legs and wore heels," agreed Jess, standing on her tiptoes to peek over his shoulder. "And I love you but you're tall enough as it is." She wanted to ask what he was looking at those for, but another part of her suggested maybe she should bite her tongue there.
Sam gave a rueful little laugh as his attention went from the magazines to his feet and he turned to look at Jess once more. "What, I'm not allowed to become even-taller-Sasquatch? Dean might be upset to hear," he teased lightly.
"Well, I hope you won't be wearing the dress for Dean," said Jess, reaching under his arm to close the topmost magazine. "I think that one was a little froofy anyway, don't you?"
Sam really wished that his brain hadn't summoned up the perfect image of Dean in a dress for him to stew on and he winced heavily, rubbing at his eyes before glancing at the magazine in her hands. "I dunno. Are they supposed to be not-froofy?"
"I guess it all depends on who's wearing it," said Jess, letting go of the magazine and wrapping her arm around his waist from behind. "I always imagined myself in something sleeker. More silk and satin, less lace. For you, you might want something to hide the fact that you have no breasts or hips."
"Maybe a suit," he replied, wishing that he didn't feel the grip of panic when all they were doing was joking around. Except, he had this feeling that she would get the gist of what he really wanted and she wouldn't want the same and that feeling definitely wasn't going away very quickly. "I definitely think you in a sleek dress would be a knockout."
"You always think me in a sleek dress is a knockout," she said. "Of course, you think me in a suit is a knockout too." She really wasn't sure if he wanted her to ask, but she just couldn't not. "So did you go looking for these, or did they just show up?"
"I was looking for shapeshifter lore from India so I could teach my class about the various mythology in different cultures," Sam told her the truth, twisting up his lips as he let the magazine fall onto the ever-growing pile. "Apparently, the books want me to teach them about brides," he said sarcastically.
"I guess it thinks that's a subject you're not particularly well informed about?" she suggested, letting her fingertips slide up underneath the hem of his shirt to touch bare skin, just for a fleeting moment. "Not that I'm sure those magazines will be much help."
Sam cleared his throat at the touch and he leaned into it slightly, wetting his lower lip as he stared down at her. "Right this second, I'm really not thinking about magazines or class," he fessed up, deciding to just be totally honest. "You're very good at doing that. The distracting me, part."
"I guess I just have lots of practice," she said, taking advantage of the new position to give him a quick, friendly kiss. "So how about you tell me what is on your mind, then, if it's not Indian shapeshifters - which, by the way, I am going to ask about one of these days."
"And one day I will fully explain and if you stay awake during it, I will give you way more than a gold star." Because he wasn't thick and knew that his world could occasionally be extremely boring. "I uh, I actually have been thinking maybe a tiny bit about weddings. But only a little."
"Oh yeah?" said Jess, fingers trailing over his skin again as she took a look at the bookshelf on her own, pausing on a couple of titles. "What kind of weddings? Bohemian beach weddings? Because I figure those are probably the main kind that happen around here."
"Actually," Sam said, deciding to be utterly serious about it. "Actually," he repeated, getting his courage up and the strength to go on. "I was thinking more of a you and I kind of thing. Someday."
"That's the part that comes before the kids part, right?" she said, and she might've been teasing him a little but she was pretty serious, too. "Well, it's probably a good thing I like weddings on the beach, huh? But we should definitely be looking at dresses that won't drag sand. Less froof and more making me look radiant in the ocean breeze."
Sam smiled warmly, one hand slowly burying into her hair as he eased closer and swayed lightly before planting a light kiss to her lips. "Yeah, I always heard marriage before kids was a pretty smart plan, but hey, what does society know," he joked.
