At first, Zero didn’t know what to do or think, he simply stood his ground, kept his distance, his eyes locked on the familiar object as if awaiting it to make the first move and attack. Being that it was inanimate, that was unlikely, but that fact didn’t offer much in the way of putting him at ease with its presence. It had about as much business being there as he did, possibly less.
When he had first arrived on the island, he’d been entirely convinced that the Sorceress had locked him inside of that thing as means of punishment, for failing one too many times, just as she had kept her mother hidden away from the rest of the realm. And a generous punishment it would have been, too, all things considered. Azkadellia wasn’t one to suffer fools; he’d seen people executed for crossing her just once, but Zero had managed to keep his skin after more than a few minor… and some not-so-minor hiccups.
That containment sphere, the island, his cell - a prison within a prison inside yet another prison - that’s how he assumed things were arranged. Seeing that thing stand there got rid of one layer, at least, but that didn't necessarily make him feel better.
Gathering his wits, he finally approached the sphere, still plenty wary of it. The lights at its base didn’t glow; the gauge on its side was still, and when he slid back the top hemisphere, there was nothing but a flat, empty surface inside. Which was a lot better than finding a tiny mock-up of the island, he supposed. Processing the sight of something like that would have been a lot more than he was prepared to deal with.
A good part of him wanted to take the nearest downed tree branch and clobber the thing, but a more sensible part wondered if attacking an inanimate object would prolong his sentence. In the end, he decided it wasn’t worth the risk.
That was downright progressive of him.
