Lewis Nixon has never been much for big parties. He'd been forced into them for most of his life, and his general impression was that of an exceedingly civilized battleground, where the primary goal was to make everyone else as miserable as possible while pretending you yourself weren't just as badly off. It was entirely false, a lot of glitter and shine but no real substance, and when he'd become old enough, he'd stopped going to them altogether.
The island, however, is different. People are different, life in general is different. Warmer, more honest, as if the inhabitants need to combat the inherent surrealism of the place with something solid. Nowadays he's happy that he's here, glad that he was plucked from Austria and dropped in the ocean. There are several reasons for that, but the primary one, the most important one, is his best friend. Lewis Nixon doesn't usually like big parties, but he likes Dick Winters a whole hell of a lot, and he doesn't know of too many better ways of tangibly showing that than throwing him one of the biggest parties the place has seen.
The Officer's Club is complete, and they've got the lawn cleared. Duck's set up a nice little dance floor, and Warrick's playing music that doesn't make Lew's head hurt. There's so much food he thinks it could feed Easy three times over, and a bar set up by the front door.
That Dick doesn't drink seems immaterial right now. Having fun, that's the important part.
