Hiro had been on the island for several weeks now. He couldn't believe it had almost been a month. It seemed like every day his 'celebrity' sighting list got longer and longer. He was happy enough with his life on the island, but he wouldn't be upset if his powers saw fit to start working again. He really had a lot to catch Ando up on ( Read more... )

The island never ceases to amaze me. The other day an elevator appeared in the compound, and no one seems to know how it got here. Something appears right in the middle of the place a good portion of the island residents live and we have NO IDEA? To think that before I arrived here I thought Morn was strange.

I still preferred to take the stairs most of the time but for some unknown reason I decided it was time to give the elevator a try. I wasn't expecting to see the young man standing before me, his excitement somewhat infectious.
"Enjoying yourself?" I ask, laughing.

"Julian Bashir!" he shouted, instantly recognizing the man. He'd met everyone from Final Fantasy 7 who he'd been told was on the island and now he could add Julian Bashir from Star Trek to his list. It occurred to him too late that it might not be Bashir. Boothby hadn't been Boothby at all, but Glen Bateman.

"Oh, are you Bashir?" he asked tentatively.

That was certainly not the reaction I was expecting. No one greets me with that much enthusiasm, I don't think anyone in my life has ever greeted me in such a manner. "Yes, I'm Bashir. Have we met?"

Hiro's smile grew brighter again. He had just met his new best friend.

"No," Hiro pouted slightly. "But I'm a big fan." His smile returned until he had the thought that it might be the mirror-verse Bashir. He started peering suspiciously at Bashir to see if he'd do something unpredictable or downright mean. "Which Bashir?"

Ahh, he must be part of the medical community somehow. I knew some of my papers had been well received (and some with not quite so warm a reception), but I had never met someone who called themselves a 'fan' before. I'm not sure if that makes me proud or a little afraid. Let's go with proud.

"Which Bashir? Julian. Doctor. Son of Richard and Amsha. Is there another one?"

"Yes. There's the Other One. The bad one," he said growing more and more suspicious. Not that waiting on an elevator was exactly evil, but Hiro couldn't be certain.

"The bad one?" Now I was completely lost. There was a bad version of me? The only other version of me was from the alternate universe and...oh. Of course.

"No, it's me. Not the alternate universe Bashir. As far as I know no one from the alternate universe has shown up on the island."

"Good. The good you," he said as his smile returned. "There was another me here ... I'm not sure when exactly. But I guess you didn't meet me then." He hadn't thought to ask Charlie that question.

"No, I didn't meet the other you. He must have been here before I arrived." Not that I knew who this person was, but I'm sure I would have remembered meeting someone even remotely like him.

"You seem to know quite a bit about me, but I don't even know your name."

Hiro felt a little embarrassed. He'd been going on and on about the doctor and accused him of possibly being from the mirror and hadn't even introduced himself.

"I'm Hiro Nakamura."

I would offer my hand, but even though Hiro is holding them open I'm afraid the doors are going to close and cause some damage. This is primitive technology after all. "Pleased to meet you, Hiro. Any chance I might be able to actually use the elevator?"

"Oh yes," he said, standing up straight. "Which floor please? It doesn't have a computer. You push the buttons," he offered as some sort of elevator expert.

"Level 4, thank you." From the inside the elevator looked not so very different from a starship transport tube, although the controls really bore no resemblance.

"Where are you from Hiro?"

"I'm from Japan. Tokyo, Japan," he said as he happily pressed the button for the fourth floor, aptly labeled '4.' He considered talking about Starfleet academy as though he'd been, but decided against it. He would have to make up a different year if it came down to it though.

"Is anyone else from Deep Space Nine here?"

This was beginning to get just a little bit strange. I suppose it's not a secret that I was stationed on DS9, someone following my career might know that, but there was something off here and I couldn't put my finger on it. "There is, Garak is here. I'm sure you will meet him soon, you can't miss him."

Hiro had been hoping for someone else from Starfleet. Maybe Major Kira or Odo. Commander Sisko or even Jake. But Garak wasn't bad as far as Cardassians went.

"How is Ezri?" he asked.
