Hiro had been on the island for several weeks now. He couldn't believe it had almost been a month. It seemed like every day his 'celebrity' sighting list got longer and longer. He was happy enough with his life on the island, but he wouldn't be upset if his powers saw fit to start working again. He really had a lot to catch Ando up on ( Read more... )

Who wouldn't want to take a look at the new elevators? 'Course Kaylee was already hoping they'd need someone now and again to tinker on the things, not that she knew the innards of a elevator proper, but she'd work it out, she reckoned pretty easy too. Had turning, working parts the same as Seremity

Kaylee wandered up to take a look, curious and dying to make use of the new novelty, never mind the place she game from had technology far in advance, and space travel, elevator rides were fun and there were always folk to talk to.

Or sometimes they came to you. To her complete surprise, as she stood waiting for the doors to open someone was there the second they parted and greeted her with a yell. Kaylee herself, did something between a gasp and a yelp. "Wǒde mā!" She put a hand to her chest as if to slow her pounding heart. "You okay in there?" She asked, between concerned and confused. She gripped the door to stop it closing on the guy.

[Wǒde mā! = Oh my god!]

He leaned sideways a little to see who was out there. He was quite surprised to see Jewel Staite. He only remembered her name because it was so unusual. Like Cloud Strife or Q.

"Yatta!" he exclaimed again. "Hello. I'm Hiro. Are you going up? Or down?" He was ready to press the button for her. Who didn't want to be trapped in an elevator with Jewel Staite after all?

Kaylee calmed some, well at least he wasn't hurt or under the impression he was trapped or anything like that. After all some folk were from times where there weren't anything near as fancy.

"Hiya." She grinned brightly, not so worried. You don't meet many this enthusiastic 'bout an elevator. " Nice t'meet y'Hiro I'm Kaylee." She peered in, looking undecided really, a brow arched. "Well t'be honest I ain't got anywhere so particular to go- ..I was just plannin' on takin' a ride." She walked in. "So, I guess it's your pick."

He'd met Kaylee! Everyone loved Joss Whedon. Everyone had been disappointed that the Firefly series had ended so early and everyone had been so elated that Serenity had been made. Everyone of course meant Hiro.

"Ok," he said as he pushed all the buttons. As the doors closed, he turned toward her. "This wasn't here before Saturday," he explained as though being the elevator operator had somehow given him particular insight into the device's mysterious appearance. In fact, he only knew it had appeared suddenly because Glen had said so.

Watching as all the buttons were lit, she laughed quietly, this was definitely the right way to take a trip in the elevator. "Funny how that happens, ain't it? Stuff just appearin' like it up and decided itself." It was kinda cute how his fella seemed to have named himself the official elevator operator too.

She touched the shiny metal wall, tapping her palm against it. "So, got yourself a pretty impressive setup here." Kaylee grinned. "They oughta get you a proper uniform n'all."

"Does stuff just appear like that a lot?" He wondered what else might just appear like that.

Hiro imagined himself dressed properly as an elevator operator. He would look a lot like those bell hops he'd seen in Las Vegas. He'd greet people with a smile and press the button for them. It wasn't much of a job in comparison to saving the world, but it could work while he waited for his powers to come back. He smiled at what a wonderful idea it was. He'd always thought Kaylee was nice, but meeting her in person was a completely different and enjoyable experience.

"Oh yeah." Kaylee nodded enthusiastically, smiling. "Though kinda depends. See it ain't always so grand as an elevator, or plenty useful. More often ..well, stuff belongin' t'someone appears." She was quite happy to explain, Hiro must be among the new sort. "Somethin' from home y'might remember especially well. Personal-like."

Kaylee listened keenly to the whurring background sort of noise the elevator made, even if it weren't broken she'd like to take a look around.

She seemed to know a lot about stuff appearing. He was happy to listen since it was all new to him. "That is strange," he commented. "What kind of personal-like stuff?"

"Pretty strange- then again this place ain't your most normal." Kaylee smiled, with a fond sort of roll of her eyes. "Snows 'round Christmas time here. Bet y'can't imagine that, snow on a tropical Island." She beamed, she couldn't wait to see everything covered in pristine white again, the snowfights.

"Anyway, personal ..sort of things, like a friend o'mine got a statue of himself he ain't seen since he'd were back at home. N'another got a -picture from home, weren't here when she arrived." It was only a slight lie, Kaylee didn't think it was clever to go blabbing about River being an ex-fugitive to folk.

"Yeah. Pretty strange," he agreed. The elevator dinged to signal a second floor stop. Hiro looked out, but no one was waiting to get on. He didn't mind though.

"Snow around Christmas? Doesn't it melt in the sun?" It sounded pretty interesting, though, he had to admit.
