It had taken Fraser longer than expected to arrange the first meeting, but now that the day had at last come, Fraser couldn't help but feel as if it had all been worth it. At long last he was ready for his first ever Island Scouts meeting, and he'd set up a few small work areas on a shady spot on the beach.
For the younger scouts, Fraser had taken the time to make what passed for popcicle sticks, carving and sanding each one with care, using the wood kit the island had given him at the beginning of the year. He planned on using them to help teach the younger members about basic hut construction, starting with a basic foundation and then letting them learn what made for a good hut through trial and error. Of course, he'd have to explain later that you couldn't put together a real hut with glue... but he felt the basic principal was clear enough, and that the activity would be both fun, and educational.
For the older scouts, Fraser planned on making bows and arrows, the supplies laid out on a table he'd built just for these meetings.
What he was most proud of though, were the sashes. Each one a proud topical green, just waiting to be adorned with patches that Fraser would make. After all, all hard work deserved a reward, and what better reward than a sense of pride?
Smiling, the Mountie watched as everyone started to turn up, only beginning when it looked like all the sashes had been taken. After explaining the days activities and separating the youngest from the older children and young adults, Fraser sent them off to have fun, dividing his time between both activities, thankful that a few other adults had turned up to help keep an eye on things. Perhaps he'd even consider asking one to help him run all of his meetings in the future.
(Gathering post style, open to all. If you signed your pup up to be a scout, or wanted to and never got a chance, feel free to assume there is a sash for your pup! None-scouts are welcome also to come see what's going on. Tag Fraser (I'll tag him in up top for questions and threading), tag one another, make shiny crafts...
