While Miss Dearheart preferred to wear her heels as much as possible, on the island that wasn't really a practical possibility. Besides hygiene, the heels themselves were suffering considerable wear, so that was her excuse for taking a walk in bare feet down the beach that morning.
She would regret it later. Specifically, she would regret it later when she stepped on something. Something hard, sharp and metal, that pierced her foot and made her yell an extremely rude swearword and fall, unceremoniously, onto the sand.
Her foot was bleeding, just a little, and she muttered under her breath as she rubbed at it, cursing her lack of footwear. Then, when the pain had subsided into a dull smarting, she scooched over to see what it was that had caused the damage in the first place.
She recognized it immediately - the little metal box, scorched and melted as it was on its corroded metal band. With a suddenly unsteady hand, Miss Dearheart reached out and picked it up, brushing sand and blood from the twisted surface. There was no mistaking it. This was the golem, Anghammarad's armband - the one he had worn for over nine thousand years, the one bearing a message he was going to take all the way through Time when it came back around.*
Quite uncharacteristically, Adora Belle felt tears stinging her eyes. She knew the island occasionally sent its inhabitants items from home, as some sort of message or something, but she wasn't sure what the island was trying to tell her. That she should be patient? That her time would come, too? But Anghammarad's hadn't. He'd been smashed to pieces in the flaming wreckage of the Post Office. That was a pretty lousy message to send, she thought, and her fingers closed tightly around the melted metal box, until she could feel its edges digging into her palm.
"I'm not a golem," she said, to the island at large. "I'm not that patient." And she never would be.
*Golems had a somewhat circular approach to time. They believed it was constantly traveling around in a never-ending circle, and that if they waited long enough every event would come back around and repeat itself. Adora Belle thought this was rather depressing.
[OOC: Not exactly the best time to meet her, but she's likely to be as friendly to old acquaintances as she would be to new, so...have at! :D]
