The last time this had happened, he'd gone so far as to roast some meat for everyone. This time, he's still weary and tired of wondering if today is going to be the day Glitch turned up in his body again or worrying that whoever was in Coraline's body was going to find herself or himself in some kind of trouble. So he'd still put out as much as he ( Read more... )

It was Lucy's hope to find Coraline at the Homestead. She'd not been able to find her anywhere else, and after talking to Mohinder in Coraline's body she'd become more and more worried. She stood near the edge of the gathering, Shadow close at her heels. Anyone could be Cora, and how would she know?

"Hello Lucy," Coraline said towering over her best friend. She'd never realised Lucy was so small before. Coraline grinned at her best friend and rocked back and forth in the patriotic wellington boots.

"Hullo," Lucy looked up at the man, unsure of who he was and how he knew her name. Only, with the wellies and the people swapping about in bodies she thought it fair enough to guess, "Coraline?"

Coraline wanted to weep with pride at Lucy being able to guess who she was. Even if Lucy was a Queen to a traiterous country like Narnia, keeping all the talking animals and treasures and adventures to themselves. They probably had whole countries of oil beneath them. Coraline was halfway through a plan to invade Narnia when she realised that Lucy was still there.

"Sorry, I get distracted easily." Coraline said apologising to her friend. She was half thinking about Aslan. Aslan was totally a kitty terroist in disguise. She couldn't tell Lucy that otherwise she might be a little upset. "Oh Luce it's terrible, I keep having bad thoughts and I have boy bits. And no one will let me play with guns or invade other countries and there's a rogue Other Coraline walking around in MY BEAUTIFUL AND PERFECT BODY."

Whomever owned this body usually was quite excitable, or so it seemed to Lucy as she was shouted at by her friend. "It will be alright," she reassured her friend, believing that utterly. "You'll be back in your own body soon, and the person in your body will be in their's. There's nothing else to be done for it, and I'm sure you've no real need for guns."

"No need for guns?" Coraline said looking at Lucy horrified. Was her friend secretly a liberal hippy?! "But guns are the staple of the free world! And cheeseburgers. With that type of pacifism Lucy the whole world is in danger from BEARS and other mothers and BEARS!"

"Are you sure you are well?" Lucy looked at her friend in this man's body in some measure of horror. "What do bears and cheeseburgers have to do with guns and us being in danger?"

"Cheeseburgers are the great pride of my co-of America! And Guns too!" Coraline said, her new body and it's patriotism amused her slightly. "Bears are evil Lucy, evil godless creatures who are just waiting to try and kill us whilst we sleep. And if we lay down our arms and our cheeseburgers then they'll slaughter us all and bring down a reign of godlessness on the planet."

There were many bears that Lucy remebered well. Some were kind and of the talking variety, and another - he had scared her very much, having lost what made him a Bear and having gone back to being just a wild beast. "I don't think anything is inherently evil. Things may become so, or be made to be so, but everyone could be redeemed if they wanted it enough."

Coraline didn't think this body could be dissuaded from the fact that bears were evil, just like she knew she couldn't be dissuaded from thinking that the Other Mother was Evil. Neither could be redeemed not for her and not for this body.

"Do you really think that Lucy?" Coraline asked curiously. "What if they threatened Narnia?"

"Bears have fought against Narnia before," she said quietly but firmly, "And we've fought them off before. Should we need to again, we would."

Only there would be no we, Lucy would never go back to Narnia. "They've fought with Narnians as well. They aren't inherently evil. No one is."
