Abby had been a guy for about a day now. Well, she'd been a guy before, but before she'd actually been in her own body, just with different equipment. This? Was definitely not her body. She'd realized that about the time she'd woken up in a hut by a stream when she distinctly recalled going to sleep curled up against Tim in a way that probably ( Read more... )

Olive stopped in front of the compound, watching the body of the man who was merely a friend (or so she told herself - sometimes quite frequently) walk toward her. "Still not Charlie?" she asked, only a hint of worry in her voice. "Or are you again? Charlie? Are you in there?"

She felt distinctly warm and fuzzy towards this woman despite the fact that she'd never met her (although she thought she'd seen her in the kitchen). Huh. This was actually kind of useful, like being psychic but not, a reflection but not. The whole moon and the entire sky are reflected in one dewdrop on the grass.

Right. More Zen.

"No, sorry," she replied truly apologetically. "I'm supposed to be Abby Sciuto, and I think I've seen you around. In the kitchen, maybe?"

No, not Charlie, Olived sighed slightly, her shoulders slumping forward. "Abby?" She didn't recognise the name, but that wasn't entirely unusual. "I'm Olive," she said, holding out her hand, not thinking how it was strange to shake hands with Abby-in-Charlie. "I waitress on Saturdays. That's probably where."

"Right, yeah, that's it," she agreed, snapping her fingers in a way that she never did and smiling down at the tiny blonde before they shook hands. The body held the hand a little longer than it had to, which was interesting.

"It's nice to meet you, even if you already know me, or at least know the Charlie suit I'm apparently borrowing."

The snap made her smile, wishing that she had something to occupy her hands. Digby's leash, a pie, anything to be carrying so she wouldn't fidget. "Oh, we've only met once or twice. He's just a friend. Barely a friend even. Some guy I know. Sort of."

That didn't fit and something twigged in his head as well as hers. Maybe he'd been a cop? There was an instinct for subterfuge.

"A meeting of a moment can produce a friend of a lifetime," she quoted serenely.

It seemed the sort of thing Charlie would say, and that made Olive pause in and of itself. "I suppose that it really can."

She shook her head. "Sorry. Apparently I get the Zen along with the red hair and the Y chromosome."

She'd meant to stop there, but was apparently overruled and instead said, "You want to walk to the beach with me? See if I can find Charlie and reassure him I'm not jumping off a cliff in his body?"

Right. Definitely some fuzzy feelings.

Immediately her heart jumped, and Olive had to remind herself that this was not in fact Charlie. "Oh. He's in another body. A teenager. But if you wanted help finding him..." She smiled, willing to forget for a few minutes.

"I will absolutely take all the help I can get. There are a few teenagers wandering around and while I could walk up to them all and ask if they're Charlie, I don't think he wants a reputation for accosting random people," she agreed.

On the other hand, the body didn't seem worried about that at all, like he was used to doing that.

"This one is blonde," Olive provided helpfully, "and he scowls a lot. Possibly even sneers. Does that help?"

"A little," she admitted, smiling at the description and waving an arm to indicate that they might move towards the beach.

"I'll look for sneering, scowling teenagers. Hatred is a prison, though."

"A prison? I guess that it is." Olive had never been any good at hating people, it burned too hot, burning a person out. It didn't mean that she hadn't her share of dislike in her time, but she tried to not hold onto it. "I'll help you look. I don't think he'll be on the beach though, he has the look of someone who'd burn."

"I don't think I tan very well either," she pointed out, looking down at the pale, slightly freckled arms with the dusting of hair, then putting up a hand to scratch an itch on his/her stubbled face

"I need a shave. You think Charlie would mind if I shaved his face at some point? It itches."

"I don't know," she didn't know. It wasn't that she and Charlie were close, but she couldn't imagine there would be a problem, and if there was a problem, he could just grow it back, couldn't he? "I don't think he'd mind. He can always grow some stubble back, can't he?"

"Exactly. If he's really attached to it, it'll only take him a few days to get it back...and I won't itch so much. How do men grow beards without going nuts from the itching?" she asked rhetorically.
