Waking was an in and out thing, sometimes she'd stay awake for a few minutes only to slide back down into darkness. Sometimes she'd stay awake in a haze of pain that was tempered by bursts of relief. She flickered between too hot and too cold with a preference for neither, shivering equally despite the extremes. Sarah hated that point between waking and passing out, the one that was all fog with that haze where you could still hear the world around you with just enough clarity. Maybe the worst part was the fact that she could feel each and every injury on her body.
And now her eyes were open and she was staring at the clinic ceiling like it contained the answers to everything.
Great.
Now she was shivering again and that just made everything hurt more.
She took a breath and tried to relax.
