The morning had dawned bright and clear, for which Marian had found herself very grateful. For all that it was an important day they had taken their time, performing tasks about their home that would need to be completed no matter what the occasion. There was a comfort in it, something they found they both needed that morning.
Marian had gone to the Compound to prepare, accepting Elizabeth’s help with her hair and gown. It was a simple dress, nothing like the one she would have worn had she been home in Nottingham. Of course, had she been home in Nottingham she would have been preparing to marry Guy, or perhaps even Robin. It was strange to think on that, strange to think on the things that had led her instead here.
Yet when she entered the church that afternoon, she knew that for all of their troubles, she had chosen truly. Her eyes met Silence’s in front of the altar and Marian could not do anything but smile as he folded back the veil of gauze. Book’s words were simple, not the words they were used to, but the spoke of love and commitment. Of love for those all about you, and of the importance of depending on one another. Her voice nearly broke when she spoke her vows, and Silence’s face lit up when he said his. When they kissed it was she that pulled away, not he, cheeks flushed pink as he took her hand and led her from the church and to their reception.
It was a blur, food and drink, she was sure there was music and dancing as well. They spoke to many people thanking them and accepting congratulations, each time turning to find another person there. Neither of them minded, how could they on this day?
