Some days, John didn't want to do much of anything other than spending some time to himself, maybe working on the Ferris wheel or the Pyramid court. It wasn't the same as working on a car or plane engine, but it was something, and it kept him occupied for those days when he didn't need speed or thrills, just hard work and the sun overhead.

It'd been a little while since he'd really worked on the Ferris wheel, between all the various jobs he had. When he caught Brendan looking like he didn't have much to do while on his way out, John talked him into helping him out for an hour or two with some of the work that needed an extra hand here or there. Never mind that he didn't exactly give the other man any chance of actually declining.

Plus, if he was going to be honest, John wanted to get to know Brendan a little more, see if Rodney's drunken ramblings were just that. He never got much out of Ronon.

"Hand me that socket wrench? The 12 point," he said, shifting a little as he held a hand out. They were a few feet up into the metalwork of the Ferris wheel, doing nothing more than tightening bolts and making sure things weren't going to fall apart. Busy work, but pleasant, despite the heat that had them both sweating and possibly on their way to twin sunburns, shirts lost a while ago.

And, because John was competitive and neither of them had lost yet, he added, "9731."

Brendan wasn't quite sure how he had been talked into this, and in fact - he wasn't really sure if there had been much talking involved at all. He definitely recalled the conversation, and everything that had been said, but no matter which way he came at it - he didn't know how it had ended up with him clinging for his life to a ferris wheel, staring blankly into a toolbox.

"Not prime," Brendan said, poking at the tools a bit. He took out a socket wrench and was quite happy to see the '12' branded on the bottom. He handed it over to John, one arm still firmly hooked around a metal bar. He could feel the sun beating down on his shoulders and gave John a hopeful look.

"Hey, you know what's much better than working on a ferris wheel? Finding a tree to sit under and eating pie. Doesn't that sound good?" He paused. "4673."

"Prime," John answered easily as he accepted the wrench. He got that Brendan seemed a little uncomfortable just a few feet off the ground, but they could work on that. Maybe.

"This is the kinda stuff guys do," he explained, waving the wrench in a vague circle to encompass what they were doing. "Hanging out." He shifted a bit where he was, reaching up to tighten a set of bolts overhead. "Besides," he added, glancing down to make sure Brendan hadn't fallen off in the two seconds John looked away, "we can get pie when we're done. 8865."
