Today he was to arise early and help prepare the Dawn Treader for her voyage to the newly-discovered island. Jeremy had been looking forward to it, eager to be at sea again. 'twas no matter if the trip would only last a day. There would be many others; Caspian had said so. Being at sea was freeing in ways Jeremy could nae allow himself to be on ( Read more... )

Serena turned over in bed, eyes still firmly shut, and pulled her pillow over the top half of her face. "Blair, are you okay?" she asked, voice still rough with sleep. It didn't sound like Blair was having a nightmare, at least, but she wasn't usually one for talking to herself. Concern wasn't about to make Serena wake all the way up yet, though.

Jeremy immediately froze when the young lass addressed him. For decency's sake, he averted his eyes the moment she turned over in bed. He dinnae know how to confess he was not who she thought he was. Saying such a thing aloud would sound mad and likely upset the poor thing. The last thing he wanted to do was give her cause for alarm.

"I'm quite fine, thank you," he murmured, hoping his speech was close to what the lass was expecting.

Serena lay still for a few moments, but she was awake now and there was no helping it. Sighing, she sat slowly up and leaned back against the wall, rubbing sleep from her eyes. "You're fine and I'm up," she said, rolling her eyes. As much as she loved Blair and despite seventeen years of friendship, there were still times when she had no idea what the other girl was thinking. Moments of politeness like that could mean nothing -- this was, after all, Blair Waldorf -- or they could indicate that Serena should prepare to spend the rest of the day walking on eggshells, trying to figure out what was pissing B off now. There was no point in asking again, though, especially if it were the latter.

"Wanna go grab breakfast?" She rolled out of bed as she spoke, walking around it to find something to wear out.

Breakfast was an idea to which Jeremy was amenable. Perhaps when the lass had some victuals in her, he could find it in himself to reveal the island's deception. He wouldn't want to upset a young lady on an empty stomach; she might keel over and he was nae entirely certain he trusted the doctors here.

"I'm famished," he said, and he was surprised to realise that he was.

Serene wriggled into a pair of denim shorts before casting around for a bra and a top to wear. "Now that you mention it," she said, sounding faintly amused, "so am I." She stopped speaking, though, to pull her nightdress over her head. There was no use talking when the sound would be muffled. "Did you hear people yelling earlier?" She glanced back over her shoulder at Blair. "I thought I heard fighting, but maybe I was just dreaming."

As the young lady dressed herself, Jeremy turned 'round to the bed. Carefully he smoothed out the sheets and the duvet, place the pillow at the head. When he was certain modesty had been gained, Jeremy began to look for some clothes to put on this body. Though he dinnae understand much o' the modern fashion, he selected a proper-looking blouse and trousers. "I heard nothing," he murmured, finding a length o' ribbon and binding his hair back with it.

Blair had never been what anyone would call a morning person, but this quiet was something different. Serena couldn't help worrying a touch as she eased back to sit on the edge of her bed. "Blair," she said, measure her words out carefully, "are you sure you're alright?"

There'd been trouble before. Serena had caught on too late, something she couldn't ever forget, something she still blamed herself for. She didn't want to let it happen again. Quiet in Blair Waldorf could be dangerous. There was no sullen note, though, no sense that B was sulking about something. "You know you can tell me if something's wrong." If it was Chuck, she'd kill him.

Blair. So her name was Blair. 'twas a lovely name, one he had nae heard before. Standing in front of a small dressing area, Jeremy caught sight o' himself in the looking-glass. What he saw made him gasp softly. The dark eyes. The hair wasn't quite as dark, but it was dark enough. The red lips.

Images o' Bess came back in haste, so much so that his knees felt weak for a moment.

Laying a hand upon the dresser to steady himself, Jeremy knew he could no longer keep the truth from this lass. Turning 'round to face her, the corners o' his mouth turned downward.

"I'm sorry, lady. Some sort of trickery has placed me in the body of your friend. My name is Lord Jeremy Northwood, not Blair."

Oh, that wasn't right. That was so not right.

If it had been anyone but Blair, she would have just laughed and laughed, convinced it was a joke. Blair didn't pull jokes like this, though. Blair's tricks were rarely pulled with humor as the intended result. Instead of laughing, Serena just stared. Inching back on the bed a little, she shook her head, finally huffing out a soft laugh. "Good one, B," she said too brightly. "You got me for a moment there."

She'd been told about island tricks, and coming here had been magic she'd felt firsthand, but joke or not, it didn't seem possible. It just wasn't possible.

"This is no trickery, lass. I wish it were so, but it is not," he said slowly. His mouth settled more fully into a frown and creases came to light in his brow. "Would your friend Blair truly play such a jest on you?"

"No," Serena said quietly, casting her gaze downward. The voice was Blair's, but the words certainly weren't. "No, she -- I don't understand. What's going on? Why are -- how are you using her body? Who are you?" Lord Jeremy Northwood, she'd said. He'd said. Whichever it was. She didn't even know a Lord Jeremy was on the island. Thank goodness he was keeping calm, at least. She wouldn't have known what to do if they were both freaking out.

"I don't understand. Yesternight I turned in as I do every night, only this morning I was not where I ought to be or in my own body." Letting out a small sigh, he smoothed down the front of his trousers, more of an anxious gesture than anything else. "It is as though I was simply switched during the night, but by what means I do not know."

She'd never had an issue before with the way people talked here. They came from all different times and she'd actually thought it was pretty cool before. Now, coming out of Blair's mouth, it was just freaking her the hell out. "Weird stuff happens around here sometimes," she said. She'd heard it over and over. It just hadn't sunk in all the way. "So if you're... Lord Jeremy Northwood, then where's Blair? Where would you be normally?" God. She couldn't believe she was trying to reason this out like it was normal.

"Nothing strange thus far has happened to me." He had nae experienced any o' the so-called 'weird stuff' until now. Jeremy dinnae wish to experience it again, if he had any say in the matter. 'twas doubtful he did. "I don't know where Blair would be. I apologize. I normally sleep in one of the caves, but I expect your friend would have left the moment she woke up, if indeed she be in my body."

"No," Serena said, shaking her head, "no, don't apologize. It's not your fault. This place is just so strange..." She wanted to go over and put her arms around Blair's body, to comfort her, but with someone else inside of there, she couldn't bring herself to move. It wouldn't be Blair. Blair was somewhere else, confused and probably pissed as hell. It left her feeling almost as if Blair herself were holding her at bay, like when they'd been fighting last year.

She comforted herself instead with the notion that Blair would head back here and demand Serena's help sooner or later. "I'm sure I'll find her. Do you... do you need help with anything?"

"I have heard tell of its strangeness, though this is the first I have been prey to the island's whims." Perhaps he had been one o' the lucky few, for Jeremy had been an inhabitant here for several months now and had avoided such things until today. Lifting his chin, he watched the young lady carefully. She was rather lovely, to be sure. The compassion plain on her face told Jeremy how deeply she cared for the lass whose body he was inhabiting.

"Thank you, but I assure you that I am adept at adapting to many a situation," he said, his mouth curving up in a confident smile. "I give you my word I will take care of this body until your friend reclaims it."
