Jack had brought in a good haul that day, so dinner was a bit of a seafood bonanza. He didn't always stick around after he'd brought in the catch, cleaned and prepped it, but today he stayed in the kitchen whilst Bill cooked the meal. They chatted and joked, Jack lent a hand here and there, and Bill was glad for the company as he worked. Jack was a bloke he'd always got on well with.
Bill must have been missing his mum and her tendency to cook for a horde even more than usual, as he had prepared a rather large meal that evening. He'd seared tuna steaks and made a pasta dish with shrimp, both of which turned out quite well. He'd also done up a vegetable stew, fruit salad, and two kinds of muffins - mango and strawberry. "I think you've made enough to last us two weeks, Bill," Jack teased, and Bill laughed.
"With all the large appetites 'round here," he replied, "I wager it'll all get eaten soon enough." He poured himself his usual cup of coffee and they both leaned against the counter, continuing to talk idly as they waited for the dinner crowd to begin trickling in.
