Anita was slowly coming to accept the fact that her birthday was only ten days away. That she would be 30 really didn't bother her anyway. Of course certain recent events might be responsible for her attitude. Whether or not she was happy about it wasn't really the point either. It was over, it was done and people on the Island were safer. In the ( Read more... )

Lucy had been ducking out the door, just as someone had pulled it open. As such, the door very nearly flew open, sending her barreling into the person outside. "Oh!" She apologised with her hands to her mouth, "I'm so sorry."

As soon as Anita had recovered, which mainly meant that she was certain she wasn't going to fall, she smiled at Lucy. "It's okay. No harm done. How have you been?" It was bad that she knew it had been more than a few months since she had last talked to Lucy.

"You're sure?" It only took her a moment to see who it was, smiling once she realised that she'd not hurt anyone, including herself. When asked about herself, she laughed, her smile growing even wider, "Brilliant! My sister has her baby now, and my brothers are both here!"

Anita grinned. "It seems I've definitely been out of the loop. Congratulations. How are your brothers adjusting?" It was always different it seemed. She hadn't been nearly as bothered as some people she had run into.

"They've just recently arrived, Rickon and my brothers too." Lucy wasn't able to hide her excitement, not on this topic. Adjusting wasn't something that had bothered any of them particularly, not with the travels to Narnia. "I think they're happy here. Peter's younger than Susan now."

She grinned. "Happy is very good." Somehow with everything the Island pulled on them it seemed impossible to stay completely angry. It would take away then give and you really could never keep up.

"That must be a little strange." When she had argued with Freddy about what might happen if someone from home were to show up she had considered the possibility, but it hadn't really sunk in. "I'm not sure I would handle it very well." That might be putting it mildly.

"I don't think he is either," of course Peter would never say that. Peter would act as if everything was well, but it seemed to her that it wasn't, not really. "It'll be fine though, I'm sure."

"He has family here, so that should help." She had long ago given up expecting too much from her relationship with her family so it was nice to realize that it wasn't like that for everyone. Maybe it restored her faith just a bit.

She grinned nodding. "Once you get past the craziness it isn't so bad here." That was probably the closest anyone would get Anita to admitting out loud that she might prefer it here.

"It isn't so bad here at all," Lucy said solemnly, glancing out over the clearing in front of the compound, "I've been places much worse."

"Why do I wonder if I should even ask?" Worse places then some strange Island that could pull anyone from anywhere didn't sound good, especially coming from someone so young.

"Narnia could be frightening at times. And London, during the bombings." They'd been sent away then, to the country for the worst of it. "War is an awful thing."

"That would definitely be worse than here." Even with all of the losses people had experienced on the Island she couldn't imagine that it would be anything like living through bombings or war.

"It definitely is, but I'm not sure people have quite gotten that like they should." It never took much to bring out the worst in people.

"Maybe they will some day. We've not had any fighting here. Not really." Little that came from within, that was. The things the island did to them she didn't count.

"Yeah, we've been pretty lucky with that so far." Even if with the whole Voldemort mess they had all seemed to be together against him. It was actually nice if Anita let herself think about it.

"I think most of us have had enough of all of that before we arrive." But then she might be assuming with that.

"What was it like?" Lucy has always been curious, the question asked with little thought, "Where you were from?"

The first word that came to her mind was complicated. "There were wars, just not the kind involving bombs." No, Anita got to learn all about the more subtle games that could be played that were still just as devastating. "But I had a lot of decent people around me, and that made it alright. It was a lot noisier, and busier than here, but really I don't miss that part."
