Crash Landing- Betty's Debut

Jul 07, 2008 21:48

The floor shook beneath Betty's feet and everyone stumbled from side to side uneasily as they tried to claw their way around the inside of the helicopter. Her light blue eyes were wide as she watched the two massive men hanging from the aircraft's base struggling against each other. Another shake brought her to her knees with a small shriek and she landed heavily on a fallen soldier behind her. Something snapped sickeningly, and she shut her eyes, her hands folded and pressed to her face as if she were praying, unwilling to look beneath her.

Then, the helicopter tipped, and all those inside slide harshly to one side of the hangar and slammed into the benches against the wall. Bodies were piled around her, and Betty glanced up to see the General fall to the floor only feet away from her. Reaching her hand out in his direction, the air craft spinning dangerously as it headed towards a nearby building, Betty grimaced and pushed against the man who had now toppled over onto her and was weighing her down.

"Dad," her voice was merely a whisper in the noise of the crash and the engine, and at the final impact, her head hit the floor and everything went black.

Bruce… oh, God. Bruce. Dad. Please be okay.

She didn't want to open her eyes and see the damage. From the feeling against her cheeks, debris were everywhere, and bodies were probably scattered. It was really rough… Had it disintegrated? This felt like dust, or sand. Betty moved one arm and everything groaned. Heat beat down on her from above. Were they on fire? More than likely; they had crashed.

Slowly, she picked up her head and opened her eyes. Light flooded her vision, and she found herself wondering exactly how much time had passed. It had been night time, hadn't it? Pushing herself up from off the ground, she grasped a hand full of the powder from beneath her, and her tired eyes fell to look at it. All around her was sand. Light brown, brilliant, rock-riddled sand.

"W-what?" Adrenaline kicked in, and she snapped her head around to look over her shoulder. Nothing but beach and ocean, "What is this?"

All she could do was sit and stare in shock, her mouth hanging open, sand slowly sifting through the fingers of her right hand.
