The life of any human has much to do with patterns and repetition. In some respects, being an angel is no different. Even so I found life on my second island to be somewhat less stimulating than I might have hoped for. In all fairness, of course, my basis for comparison was my somewhat brief and luxurious respite in the body of Theo Mandros while ( Read more... )

Normally, Trance didn't give people a second look unless they were doing something worth noticing. Someone writing wasn't worth a second look. But there was something about the man that was naggingly familiar. It was like Luce all over again and she couldn't help but keep glancing at him out of the corner of her eye.

She knew him, somehow. That shouldn't have been surprising, considering how long she'd lived, but it was.

Truly it would have been quite difficult for me to forget Trance and that less to do with her skin pigmentation than one might think. That she did not recognize me was sort of expected so I rose to my feet and offered her a warm smile as she walked towards me. By this point, I had gotten quite used to re-introducing myself. "Hello again, my dear."

Maybe that body had changed, but the voice hadn't. Trance's face brightened. "Raphael." She jumped at him unceremoniously and wrapped her arms around his neck. Another brother.

"You look well," I told her as I returned the hug with perhaps more decorum, but a similar enthusiasm. Recognizing someone and being recognized in turn is a comforting experience. I suppose for you and yours it is also a commonplace occurrence, but on the island it was one that I was denied more often than not.

"I am well." Mostly. Barring a certain ex-vampire. "How's everyone back home? I miss them. I never wanted to leave, but...I had to. It was the right thing to do."

Stay and be with her family or watch the entire universe end. End and not be reborn. It was never really a choice.

"I must confess that I have not seen them in quite some time," was my somewhat wistful reply. For all that I was content to be on the island, I still missed the heavens. "I trust they are doing well, but I could not say for certain."

"They won't talk to me." It was day, so Trance looked up at the only star available: the sun. "Or can't, I suppose. Since I'm human. We had one of our brothers and a sister here, but they've long since gone back home. And Luce is here, but I'm sure you knew that."

I nod, managing a sympathetic smile. I was, of course, the only somewhat angel on the island and I missed my brothers quite a bit myself. "Yes, it took awhile for me to track him down, but I have seen him."

"We're lucky," she said wryly. "He hasn't managed to get into too much trouble, yet, since he's human. Of course, that hasn't stopped him from trying. I, uh, didn't recognize him, at first." She blushed. Just like she hadn't recognized Crowley and she wasn't entirely sure she'd every met Yvaine.

"I didn't recognize him at first either," I assured her. "But he seems to be doing reasonably well here."

Trance nodded. "We both are. Although who would have ever thought of Lucifer being human. Or me, for that matter. Or you. It's...strange, even for us."
