His hut had been finished a few days now...but he still didn't have a whole lot of furniture for it. He liked it that way, though...this was just a temporary shelter set up so he could get out of Jackson's hair while he waited for rescue. The waiting thing wasn't much fun, but there wasn't a whole lot he could do about it on his own ( Read more... )

Jack was heading to see Sheppard after they'd broken for the day. He was pretty sure he might just be in love with the XO a little...or maybe a complete masochist like the Doctor had said. Either way, he had a couple ideas he figured he'd better run by the...

That was pie. Jane had made him one once and ever since, he'd had such a weak spot for pie. He looked over the guy holding it and decided after a moment that it wasn't Crichton. That didn't necessarily mean it was Cameron Mitchell, but considering what he'd heard, chances were good.

He changed his path and sauntered closer, smiling alternately at the pie and the man.

"Hello," he said as he thrust his hand forward. "Captain Jack Harkness."

He glanced up at the unfamiliar man a moment. Judging by the interested glances he'd made toward the pie on approach, Cam figured the man was probably more interested in the pie than actual conversation. He couldn't say he didn't approve of such motivation, though--it was pretty good pie, if he did say so himself.

He grinned, reaching up to shake the guy's hand. "Lieutenant Colonel Cameron Mitchell."

"Of course you are," Jack replied. "Daniel's team. One of them. Good to meet you."

Once he had hold of his hand, the pie was almost entirely forgotten. He smiled a little more, a little warmer.

"...Finally."

"You know Jackson?" That was...oh. He must have been the Jack who was good with the clothing box. He grinned then, pointing at the man in confirmation. "You're his friend, right? The one that's good with that damn box?"

Well, he certainly didn't look anything like the General, so at least he didn't have any doubts about whether the guy befriended Jackson on his own merits or not.

"I know my way around a box or two...or twelve," Jack nodded. "Daniel's a very good friend of mine. Is he helping you get used to being stuck here?"

"Well, good. Friends are good." Any friend that didn't turn on Jackson over stupid things was, at this point, a good friend in Cam's book. He shrugged at the question, though. "Yeah, he's been good with showing me around the place. Interesting set up you guys have here."

"You get used to it," he said, shrugging a little. "Here's a tip he probably forgot. Pace yourself on the mangoes. Trust me. And don't drink mango wine, even if your already drunk. It's just bad. And don't do shots with Daniel," he grinned. "He's been here long enough to have more of a tolerance to the moonshine. Did Jane bring you a pie?"

He snorted. Tolerance or no, he didn't plan on doing shots with Jackson any time soon--the General had been pretty ominous about the Jackson and alcohol. He'd probably been joking, but with the General, Cam had rarely been able to figure out the difference.

"Gotcha, I'll keep away from the mangoes. Never did trust those things." He glanced at the pie, before shaking his head and offering the man an amused grin. "Nah, I made it. I'm not sure I've met a Jane."

"You bake." He had such a weak spot for anyone who could bake. "That's a talent most Lieutenant Colonel's don't possess. Jane Bennet, she lives over there," he pointed. Of course, there was jungle, so she could have lived just about anywhere to the west.

"I'm not most Lieutenant Colonels." He glanced in the direction indicated, despite the fact that all he could see were trees, before turning back to Jack with a nod. "I'll have to meet her some time."

"You'll love her. Everyone loves her," Jack said casually, taking a step closer. "This is your place? I'd have figured you'd be sleeping with Daniel..." he continued, looking at the new hut. "Place of your own's good. Especially now that he's got all his stuff."

He glanced over his shoulder at the hut, and shrugged. "Nah, I stayed at his place until the hut was finished, but there's only so long you can stay with a guy before it'll drive you crazy." He grinned, shaking his head. "That, and I'm pretty sure he'll work out his issues easier without having to warn house guests to mind their step."

Well. If that wasn't the most informative answer Mitchell could have given, he didn't know what was. Which was exactly what he'd been looking for...he just wanted some clarity.

"Yeah, he's a trooper like that. It's a good thing you're close, though. I'm on the other side of the compound. You, he can see every day."

Jack was on Cam's list of 'Jackons good friends', and undoubtedly already privy to most of the SGC's secrets. If they told random every random passerby about their mission and top secret information, then clearly Jackson had briefed this Jack well enough that he could have joined the SGC. As such, he didn't have a problem offering the man basic information about Jackson's life.

"Yeah. I'll stick around here." Even if all the Atlantis people didn't live around here as well, he'd have stayed nearby--after a year, it was the least he could do...and apparently there were enemies of Jackson he needed to look out for.

Jack smiled and snorted a soft laugh. "...And you just cursed yourself. Guess we'd better be friends since you're sticking around for a while."

He could almost have passed it off as teasing, but he didn't bother to try. He'd been here too long for that.

He chuckled, shaking his head. "Stickin' around long enough for the rescue boat, at least. Hungry?"

So blueberry pie wasn't the most nutritious of foods, and he didn't exactly have extra dishes on hand, but the guy did seem to be drawn by the pie originally, and it seemed rude not to offer him some. "I mean, you'll kinda have to eat it by hand, but if you want some, there's plenty."
