When Samara had first found the film reel marked the Ring Two, she'd guessed what it was and she'd kept it hidden. Even though she hadn't seen many sequels and was unaware of some of the rules governing them, she could guess it wasn't exactly going to provide her with an happy ending. And the first one... she'd thought they were going to free her, but everything and crashed and she was still evil.
But now she knew that Voldemort was on the island and alive, and she didn't doubt that he'd come for her again. She needed to watch the tape, just in case it had some bit of information that would be helpful to her. Just in case it could tell her something about her past. And so a week ago, she'd put it on, when no one else was around.
The first viewing had been enough for a whole seven days. All of the ideas spun around in her head-- she was adopted, that crazy lady was her mother, and she killed more and more people-- and Samara had hidden the damn thing away for a while.
Until now, when she was full of questions.
After figuring out how the projector worked, Samara ran it only to the parts about her mothers. About Evelyn. She watched them over and over, and the woman's face was still on the screen when the cat Evelyn, at her feet, mewed plaintively. She looked down, and then at the screen.
Her eyes grew very wide. The island had given her the cat... complete with a name....
"You're not my mother, are you?"
[Note: Samara is obsessively running parts of the Ring Two that have to do with her biological mother, played by Sissy Spacek. And yes, her NDPD gift was a kitten named Evelyn, after the mom.]
